6% to get the company match.
Once my debt is paid off I plan on focusing excess money towards some personal investments, as opposed to retirement investments. Later down the road I'll consider upping the retirement investments. At the end of the day, as long as a solid 20-25% of your income is going towards investments of some sort to generate overall net worth accumulation, that's all that matters. The incentive behind personal investments is the avoidance of penalties from withdrawing, so I can let money sit making 6% or more, and then use that money towards bigger moves such as a house down payment or maybe a new (to me, not year-of new) vehicle.
I'm only 24, and according to the retirement calculators, 6% with the match puts me right about on track, and above par compared to the average of people my age.

Depends on how much you make... 6 figure + crew, 39YO, been contributing 6-10% + Match since I was 22. Currently only contributing 6% and I am projected to retire with $3.5mil, which is 2x what I need since my house will be paid off by the time I retire.

6% which is all my company matches... Every year they try to automatically bump it up one 1% so i knock that sh!t back down to 6%... I have better things to put my $ into...
(Except in december when the stock market crashed, I bumped it up to 25% for 6-7 weeks until it recovered... now im back to 6%)
I also max out Roth IRA every year.

Was doing 17% for years and always maxed out by some point late in the year. It's trickier this year because in addition to being eligible for catchup payments now, we were acquired and the company match increased . . . plus there were some bonuses in there. So I'm trying to calculate what % will let me maximize the company match while still hitting the max allowed total contribution (which would be $25k).

17500 which I believe was last years max. That does not include the companies 6% match. Plus we still have a pension.
I have some non mtg debt I need to pay off then I’ll up it to the current 19k max.
I also got a late start which sucks because if I had this discipline years ago I would be set for an early retirement.
