Friday there were a bunch of guys arguing in the Smiths machine (appropriately enough) as one of their group had cheaper level of Nikes and... the horror... the same as he wore last year. The alpha bro of the group was not impressed.
Now I'm the opposite, I wear really old t-shirt and cheap copy of chucks that are falling apart so that the rubber trim is hanging off the fabric, toes not showing yet but it's close. I just like them! Equally... looking like I sleep in shop doorways doesn't make my lifts any better either
It made me notice that I'm the only person I see in gyms who doesn't seem to wear the latest season this, and big brand that (under armor, nike, whatever). I train in several gyms and it's the same.
Is gym fashion obsession just a London thing, am I the weirdo, or both?
Most importantly: Will my gains evaporate?

Yeah, I wear an old T-shirt and those workout pants, but they all come from Goodwill (people get rid of new or almost new workout pants all the time). I usually put the on after work to lounge around in and then sleep in them...so a pajama/workout combo.
I have a pair of “workout shoes” (just some cheap rubber soled Walmart crap) that I keep in the gym. I call them my Mr. Rogers shoes, because I go down there, put them on for an hour, and then take them off.

After handling the weights and bars at the gym I go to, my hands are filthy afterwards. However it's a pretty hardcore gym so there aren't sanatising sprays and wipes lying around. Now, I don't know whether the seats and pads are also dirty (I haven't really inspected closely), but I'm not going to wear my finest clothes there. Hence I wear really old gym clothes from 10 years ago. Not only do they look worn out, but I weigh 40 pounds less now so they also look baggy. So yes I look a bit like a hobo, but I'm not the only one, and most people there wouldn't notice or care.
