Dealerships service centers are equally as scummy these days. Not to mention how ****ing incompetent these aholes are.
Why are these people in this profession so ****ing sleazy?. Is it low IQ/tradie mentality, why do they feel like they are entitled to screwing people over and try to scam you at every turn?

My biggest lesson in life so far: car mechanics/shops are the scum of the earth

Tradies in general are idiots. Not even kidding. My parents are building a house right now and they literally make a major **** up at least once a week. Can’t even follow simple directions it’s truly pathetic.
But lower class people in general (tradies are usually lower class) are 10x more likely to be scummy due to their **** upbringings and parenting and genetics which culminate in a lack of character.

In my experience, stealerships are very different from small independent shops. If you become friendly with the owner and show some level of knowledge, that will bring you "into" the inner circle and won't jerk you around. I've had great relationships with every small shop I've had my cars serviced at.
Dealer service centers are their main profit center, so they will fleece anyone at any level of disregard. The richer and more clueless you look the more they will try and **** you.
Some big ****ing hate being dropped by some above posters.

Mechanics are pretty scummy, partner. I agree with you. And if you're in a state that requires annual inspections, they'll screw around with your ride if you drive an older car. There's always some issue after I get my car inspected. Doesn't matter where I take it. It always needs some kind of work just to pass inspection, then a month later, I need a new starter, or my sway bar is broken, or I need a new hose, or I get a flat hitting a very minor pothole... they **** around with your car in order to feed their industry. I have no problem with "tradies," but mechanics run a very scummy operation. I hope one day they get run into extinction. That'll be a very joyous moment for me.

lold hard
OP it's the same with any job that's offering you a service. difference is with dentists n chit you got insurance to cover portions of it. yes dealerships are 'scummy', but it's because it's YOUR money, and they don't want to take a chance using cheaper or aftermarket parts when they could receive issues regarding liability if something fails. that's why everything is bought new and expensive and they don't mess around, they throw YOUR money at it fixing YOUR issue(s).LOL at KENKONG crew

I work on C130's. I can swap out motors, any kinda hydraulics....a lot of things. On my car, nevermind oil changes or whatever regular prevent maintenance. I can do almost everything. I don't trust anyone else with doing crap on my cars. The simplest of things like an oil change, most honest shops will put their least skilled people on that crap, cause it is that easy. Some shops, charge premium prices and how do you even know they actually changed your filter with something of quality or used AT LEAST OEM specified oils? I do it myself, quality is assured.

I have a misc. thread on hiring an expert mechanic for $50/hr cash. He has his own tools and tore the top half off my BMW X5 E53 engine off like a child playing with blocks, in 45 minutes. Then he crawled under and opened the skidplates and oilpan in another 20.
Then he reassembled everything in 15 minutes, all the gas lines, vacuum hoses, air intake, coolant and refrigerant lines, maybe 70 nuts and bolts, just amazing to watch TBH.Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

I like being a "tradie". I was a C130 flight engineer and part of that was knowing how to work on my plane. I am a far better mechanic than you pay $$$ to to maintain your car. After seeing how paid "mechanics" work, I'd rather do my own maintenance. I don't care if parts cost as much as "parts" and labor with them. They are likely using "parts" I would never use.
