Most recent-it seems pretty certain that he ditched me for another woman and he was public with it, though he never admitted it to me directly. Not sure if they got naked before he told me he wanted a divorce or after. He had started spending a lot of time away. Heard she dumped him in December before our divorce was even final. Some comments from my daughter indicate he is hooking up with women from dating apps right now.

First one also iffy/fishy...he was in another state at a professional development thing, came back said he wanted a divorce and was moved out within a month, left me with all the expenses and half the income. About 4 months later when he brought divorce papers for me to sign he was loudly sweet talking his new squeeze out on my apartment patio. Seems she was in the same field, so...

Me? Nah. Not if I'm with in a LTR/married. I'm not blind...I'll notice attractive people, have even had a little crush or two, but never pursued anything.

I wouldn't get into a relationship with a person that would deny me such pleasures in life.

Open relationships are inherently bad for society, so it will likely never become the norm. That said, the most glaringly obvious reasons to keep your marriage monogamous are:

- Keeping venereal diseases out of the equation
- Keeping pregnancies with others/by others, out of the equation
- Significantly reducing the likelihood of one person becoming more emotionally/physically attached to someone outside the relationship

Not trying to be a dick, but all of your bolded points are fixed by "Don't sleep with retards, or people that are against birth control."

As for the naive people point you made. Simple, don't partner with an unintelligent person. If you're saying open relationships can never work, you're wrong. If you're saying for most people they won't work well, you're right. Most people are weak like that, don't know how else to say it, just weak.

So like non of your points are valid if both individuals in the relationship are "solid people".

As for what makes for a stronger society, you might be right, for now, in this day and age and the momentum that pushes most peoples thoughts/beliefs/way they live. But individuals are individuals, and two smart individuals can be aware that they can do what others cannot. As you say, a lot of people think they can make it work, but couldn't... guess what that means... that THEY were not suitable people for such a relationship, not that such a relationship is not suitable for some people.

That is a hell of a lot of trust to extend to an undetermined third party. Maybe some small number of people can include outsiders in their bedroom play as a couple. Not a lot, but at least there is a higher level of consent there - both members of the couple are aware of who the extra party is and what is going down. You are expecting your partner to not just trust you, but also to trust whoever you decide to hop in bed with even though they might be a liar, unaware they have an std, have a birth control failure (missed a pill, taking antibiotics, broken condom) etc.

I wouldn't call being aware of those eventualities weak, I would call it wise.

What is an interesting observation, is the female response to my posts. And sure sample size, whatever. But I'd also be willing to bet that females will be more likely to come out in opposition of this. I think it's like a built in mechanism in females to be against this, and to speak out against it, etc... makes sense evolutionary too, they want a partner to be around for their offspring, and not risk losing them.

I mean gay couples for example are notoriously more promiscuous. Like most females are programmed the support to monogamous idea, makes sense. And the other way too, it makes sense that a bigger percentage of males would support this idea.

It's usually the naive who think that 2 people can have an open relationship without one person eventually becoming more attached to an outside agent, than the other.

I've known a few couples over the years who were proponents of open relationships, and all of their relationships failed miserably. It was even more unfortunate when kids were involved, and ended up having to witness the messy fallout firsthand.
