    Impulsive or just daft?

LOL , I have always been a very spur of the moment impulsive type of person and my wife hates that but that is who and what I am . Saw last night on ******** one of my friends did a warrior race and thought , wow that is a nice idea , so decided to push the bar just a little further with our training and entered my son and I as a team right there and then . So Aug we will be competing in our first warrior race . 10km and 22 obstacles . Got to say i'm actually stoked to do this as when i was growing up used to do a lot of adventure courses that always had obstacles in them and also when i was in the army and i used to love running obstacle courses as it teaches you to push your limits and test yourself , and now doing this with my son to teach the lil cub that races like these is a mind game and also when you push yourself to the limit you get to know your true self .

So guess got my work cut out for me getting into shape to do this

I guess that is why a lot of them do it . For me personally I have always loved to push my limits , and seeing as there is no compulsory military service in my country anymore and my son and I have been training now for just over a year and I really enjoy it so much plus I'm seeing this as a golden opportunity for me to teach him the value of pushing yourself as he is turning 16 in 10 days I'm hoping to instill into him that core value of satisfaction when you pushed yourself so hard to see where your breaking point is .

Actually thought about it the other day ...is this what one would call midlife crisis ? If it is well then I'm glad my midlife crisis got me of my butt and started to get myself back into shape and striving to look better than i have ever looked before

I think it sounds like fun! I mean, what’s the harm? You go out, have a good time, make a memory. If you do great, you can brag. If you suck, you have a good laugh at yourself and practice to do better next time.

If your son will genuinely enjoy it (maybe more enjoyment with hindsight ) then good for you!

If your son gets no choice "you damn well better enjoy it, start smilling or drop down and give me 10" then it may be deeply unwise.

I agree 100% with you here , i have never forced my kids to do anything as some parents do . I loved athletics in school and was very good at it , but never forced them to do it. What i do how ever do is i give them the opportunity to do something but before they start they know i expect them to see it through and not just do one training then quit .

My son did martial arts with me and when he reached 1st dan with me he said he now wanted to do something diff so we started weight training , he LOVES it and this week decided he is now going to try his hand at long distance running , so i suggested this warrior race as a addition to him running

    Good goal.
It's always a good thing to bond with your son or daughter doing something together especially if it challenges you.
I competed in powerlifting for many years and stopped due to injury related things after twenty years my son expressed an interest in it so i told him we would prepare for a meet together and we did.
It was a good feeling and we did a few more after that.
You can't replace these things as time moves forward.
    I commend you !

Sounds like a great idea to me and a way to put that new fitness to use.
Bodybuilding is much more than an hour in the gym a few days a week---it's a lifestyle that changes all your perceptions about how to live, eat, and rest. It feeds the mind as much (and sometimes more so) than the body.

I did a similar type race a few years ago. A friend convinced me to do it two weeks out from the race. At that time I was in very poor shape, we were exhausted and covered in mud from head to toe afterwards. But we had a great time and it was worth it.
