Its how the left/media sets new line/conversation. They purposefully take a far left position, knowing people will disagree with it, for the sole purpose of setting the new bar further left than the current one.

Its the the, "Ok, I get it," regarding the original far left position, and then transitioning to the, "I think we can all agree on" insert the new perspective. It beautifully gets avg people(who are naturally compromisable in nature) to agree to the new standard, which falls short of the original far left one, but moves off the current one.
