Seriously considering just deleting mine for good. I've seen as toxic at worst and pointless at best for quite a long time now. It can be useful for maintaining some form of contact with certain people you might otherwise not be able to able to do so as easily with. But on the flip side, I wonder if even that's a very good reason. I have to wonder if it's really that big of a deal to keep ******** just for the sake of maintaining a miniscule amount of contact with people that I might otherwise never talk to for the rest of my life - they obviously aren't THAT important to me or vice versa if that's the most contact I'd ever have with them without social media.
Discuss the pros and cons as you see them. Feel free to chime in whether you have gotten rid of it or haven't, as well as discussing other forms of social media.

I keep mine deactivated the vast majority of the time. It's nice for the peace of mind, you know, having one less thing to have to check for notifications or messages. Makes it clear to people that if they need to get in touch with me that they need to text or something instead. I've had people get pissy and defriend me for not responding to their ******** messages within an hour or two srs

primarily use ******** to track local bands playing & other random events happening in my city (srs). would have missed a tonne of socialising without it
why give it anymore than a second of thought? delete it or don't - nobody gives a fuk either way.

I mainly keep track of my family and what they’re up to, it’s a great resource for that one purpose. I have cousins I would never have the patience to keep in touch with any other way.

you may miss out on a lot of social events as everyone is on ******** and use it to plan and invite. you’re basically forgotten if you don’t maintain an online presence. everyone’s lazy, phone calls or texts are hardly used anymore. fb is the easiest way to stay in contact
but you get to keep your sanity

People I care about are happy to run in to me and we have things to talk about and share because I’m not staring at a screen all day. I’m less judgemental because I’m not scrutinizing people for public drama from twitter or ********. I also feel like I’m in a better mood too because I don’t spend all day comparing my life to others for what they have and I don’t.
Hm.

Haven’t used in 3 years.
Haven’t missed a damn thing about it.
Best part is I don’t have to pretend to care about people’s random ****.

Trust me, I totally understand the "keeping up with family/some friends" part of it. And if that makes it worth it to you, then I wouldn't judge you for it.
But now I'm just thinking, it's very rare that I give a crap about what any of them have to say on ******** anyway. With the vast majority of people, it seems to have devolved into a giant "Look at me! Give me attention!" type of thing. Very few people ever post anything particularly interesting, at least that I've seen. That and it hasn't been good for the lulz since about 2011 at the very latest, which was one of the main things that made it appealing in the first place to me.
I certainly don't expect anyone I'm "friends" with on there to care about it if I do delete it. I definitely won't be making one of those stupid farewell posts while telling people to message me their information or ask for mine if they want to stay in touch or anything like that. For one thing, I already have the phone numbers of anyone I'd ever feel like talking/meeting up with from my "friends" list anyway. It just seems like a bunch of useless narcissism that I'd be better off without. I also tend to end up thinking less of people when I see them posting inane garbage about politics, food, their new fad diets, constant posts about their kids, making "poor me" type rant posts, etc. Yeah I could just unfollow the vast majority of people on my list, but again, I start to fail to see the point of it if I go that route. As for looking up various events, I've never used ******** for that nor had any interest in using it for that.

deleted mine in 2013 (no deactivate, straight up delete)
i think it's made me happier srs. I was spending too much time on it watching people that don't really matter in my life. you also find out who really remembers your birthday, and those are the people that matter
as far as keeping in touch with old friends or family that live out of the country, I use insta for that, but have debated deleting that as well.

I do have FB to keep in touch with family. I'm also in a small photography group of IRL life friends that I don't get to see on the daily. It's nice to see their work, get info on local events, etc...

I want to, but for practical reasons I don’t.
I have a lot of international friends from travelling, which ******** makes infinitely easier to keep in touch with.
Also nearly all the cool events going around me are only advertised through ********.
That said I never post on there, I have zero information about myself, no pics and everything set to private. Plus I don’t have the app or messenger on my phone.

What I used to hate was the 'mutual friends' bull****. You know some random, irrelevant kunt from work adds you on ******** and realise you and him both know or used to know some other random, irrelevant person. Like you or him needed to even know that.

Deactivated it a couple of years back but deactivated it since. I remember feeling less involved in people's lives and actually being interested in talking to them and finding out about them.
Saw this thread and it reminded me of how much I really despise it. In response to that thought, I deactivated it just then, so we'll see if my mood improves from not having to see so much inane and redundant bullsh*t.
Will keep you posted.

I keep it for contacts, but I'm not an active user. Sometimes I use messenger, that's about it. I would probably be better off without it tbh, and you would too.

I guess I can't say that I really care about anyone whose ability to "remember" me would change based on having a ********/social media account or not, nor do I think I'd have enough respect for someone to give them a second thought if that was how they operated. But I'm sure that you have a point when it comes to a lot of people who are constantly glued to their screens/social media accounts, which is a great number of people these days.
Well, I just did deleted mine outright a bit ago. I don't really feel anything from having done so except for a mild sense of relief that I'll no longer be seeing so much inane and pointless nonsense anytime I bother logging on, as well as saving that much time that I might have wasted doing so here and there. It definitely isn't going to impact me in any real negative way since I've gotten to the point of it being a 95% negative/pointless experience for me anyway. If this means there's a few people I stop hearing from altogether now that I occasionally did on that site, then I don't care, because that just proves how pointless that relationship was overall anyway. If someone literally can't be bothered to ever contact you for any reason besides strictly over social media, then they frankly don't care about you much at all, so that part of it shouldn't bother you anyway.
