Having said that, the republican party will most likely shift its platform more to the center or center left kind of like the progressive conservatives in Canada, who are basically center to center left.

I'm sure there are many that are, but by and large you walk up to one on the street, and you ask them their political affiliation, they're gonna say democrat, or they may have conservative values but still vote for the democrat in the general election because immigration is a more serious of an issue to them, and no matter how chitty the economy supposedly gets under a democrat, it will never be as bad as where they fled from (Whether its Mexico or Africa or the ME). I'm in NM so I know a lot of legal residents that want their illegal relatives to come here.....within a year or 6 months time, not a decade (on average) of waiting.

Legal immigration isn’t the same as immigration. Calling this a ‘Country of Immigrants’ leaves out the ‘legal’ part, chief. So Trump being ‘hard on immigration’ really means he wants to enforce the law. It means he wants a country of laws.

The top 20% of earners pay 86% of Federal income tax. The bottom 50% of earners pay about 2.6% of Federal income tax. How do we cut taxes for those who pay little or no tax, Chief?

But Democrats are also underestimating the mindset of immigrants who - a majority of them - do hold conservative and traditional values and it will clash with the whole socially progressive platform that Dems love to run on.

By and large, like most people, they're single issue voters, and if something is really important to them they'll vote in favor of it, even if everything else the candidate stands for goes against everything they stand for religiously ideologically and every other suffix-"ly" I can think of.

I've wondered about how that will effect Florida next election, allowing convicted felons to vote once out of prison. You might be right. 1988: Dukakis got 40% of the white voter which equated to 111 electoral college votes and 10 states won.
2012: Obama got 39% of the white vote which equated to 333 electoral college votes and 26 states won.

1988: TOATL VOTES: (R) 49 MILLION // (D) 42 MILLION
2012: TOTAL VOTES: (R) 61 MILLION // (D) 66 MILLION

So from 1988 to 2012 (R) had a ~20% increase in new voters(plus 12 million) while the (D) had ~37% increase(plus 24 million) while both parties captured about the same % of the overall white vote.

If one simply switches the demographic makeup between 1988 and 2012 Dukakis wins and Obama loses. (Obama would never have been nominated in the 1st place)

What happened within those decades is, tens of millions of hard left immigrant voters have been added to the rolls.

My Canadian father in law always votes Liberal, even though he is usually on the opposite side of every issue from Trudeau.

As a skilled immigrant he doesn't want migrants coming, hates taxes, doesn't like any of the SJW bs and would be called a sexist, racist bigot if he wasn't non-white.

He's a great example of a upper middle class professional immigrant consistantly voting against his own interests.
