My question is more an issue of time/resources. Does the IRS investigate every single claim that gets reported? Curious as to how it works, and what the time line looks like.

I reported a sex worker a few weeks ago so I did some research on it around the time. The IRS is only going to investigate if you have credible and actionable evidence. They're not going to investigate a claim based on speculation or hearsay. A lot of sex workers do report their income on their tax returns and they say they make the money from entertainment or therapy or something along those lines. But many probably aren't reporting their income. The girl in particular that I reported told me herself that she does not pay taxes, so when I sent my report to the IRS I gave them all the info I had on her, her real name and address, her cash app username, links to her prostitution ads, etc. The IRS says investigations can take up to 7 years. I'm supposed to get a reply in the mail that says I will be paid a reward or if my claim was rejected. So I should know very soon if they're going to investigate her or not.

So I imagine reports like yours have a greater chance of being taken seriously, as opposed to someone just submitting a Twitter handle or whatever. Curious how many of the reports being submitted are commensurate to your thoroughness vs. "here's the link to a Tumblr"
