I Went and visited some friends I don’t normally see in a different province(been about 6/7 years since seeing some of these people) and when I ask them how they were doing they openly admitted how much they were struggling financially. So I mention to them that small rural community in remote area were gold mines for higher paying/less stressful jobs. However, despite whatever I say about leaving the city to follow the dollar, majority(only one person, the smartest of the group was interested in moving) thought that wasn’t an option like life wouldn’t cease to exist outside their urban comfort zone.
I’ve lived in the city before and yes it’s fun, but I also enjoy living in rural areas just as much(lots of good to be taken with the bad, for example thingsthat are as abundant in small community would be parking spaces, in the city it can be a nightmare to find close and free parking).
What I am wondering is, am I missing something about the city that makes it so amazing? I like how there is a community of more like minded people, but tbh I’ve grown very accustom to a more independent lifestyle where I’m harder to reach. And I really don’t need to have that many people in my life. One serious draw back to small town living is the lack of wife material girls.
Again not my biggest concerns, so wtf am I missing about the city being so amazing people will live a life of financial hardship just to be in a urban setting?

some people cannot fathom living in suburban/rural areas, and need to live in a busy city to feel comfortable.
Maybe their jobs or other circumstances would limit them living further away?"So there I am sitting in the waiting area of the hair salon with my niece and Keanu Reeves walks in. I was nervous as ****, but too scared to say anything to him. Then my niece started crying, and I’m trying to quiet her down because I don't want to bother him. Pretty soon he walks over and asks what's wrong. I replied that she was probably hungry. He put down his magazine, picked up my niece, and lifted up his shirt, and breastfed her right there in the salon. Chill guy, really nice about it."

yeah man, some people are very averse to changing their status quo. I'm one of em...but luckily i prefer more suburban areas that are spread out.
I could easily see city-dwellers arguing that moving rural/suburban could be just as expensive once you factor in travel costs, convenience factors, etc. P much just comes down to what people prioritize more"So there I am sitting in the waiting area of the hair salon with my niece and Keanu Reeves walks in. Way less job opportunities would be my guess. If you'll need to commute to the city for a job then what's the point? You're literally wasting your life rotting in traffic. For what? To have a nicer house or bigger property? Not worth it in my opinion.
If I could just snap my fingers and do anything (realistic ) though I think I'd want to be a farmer. Seems like they have the best life. Be your own boss. No overcrowded city and traffic. Do actual meaningful/fulfilling work not just stack endless piles of useless documents. Clean air. +They make good bank.

I'd chalk it up to a combination of comfort/convenience/image.
Comfortable because they like the city. Convenient because they're already established, things are close by, and other costs of living are prob lower. Image because people who live in the heart of the city are usually seen as more outgoing, having a better social life, and generally having things to do. VS living in the suburbs, where a standard weekend involves grocery shopping, mowing the lawn, maybe having a basic bbq with a friend or a neighbor, etc.
Of course those aren't fast hard rules, but generally they hold true."So there I am sitting in the waiting area of the hair salon with my niece and Keanu Reeves walks in. I was nervous as ****, but too scared to say anything to him. Then my niece started crying, and I’m trying to quiet her down because I don't want to bother him. Depends what your profession is. If you want to work at a warehouse forever, or a small company then go ahead and live in the boonies. My friend works in finance and has to live in NYC because that’s where the money is at.

I've known 1 guy who grew up on a farm and he told me farmers do pretty well, in part because they get a lot of tax exemptions and subsidies. Beyond that I don't have.much knowledge but I've seen a lot of farmers with what's obviously very expensive equipment not to mention the value of acres of prime growing land. It seems like most of them aren't into flashy status symbols but are smart enough to invest in growing their business.

If it’s for your career that makes sense and understandable. In terms of the op, I am referring to my friends, or those who work minimum wage jobs, or work jobs that don’t nessary evolve your career. Rather it keeps you a float and stagnant.
Living in the sticks ain’t all that bad I mean had it not been for the peace and quiet I probably wouldn’t have learn as much about gardening.

I live abou ~20miles out of a major city.
BRB get that suburban feel and just 2 miles to the southwest and southeast have HUGE state parks to go get lost in.
City is fun to go to games, see shows, occasionally go out. I used to work downtown and took a train in evryday. Got old as phuck quick.
