Jumped ahead and thought Zverev must have hurt himself in his 3rd round match against the mighty Basilashvili.
Nope. He really did flop like he'd just won a slam.

So much for Zverev lol.
How about our gal Andreescu???? First Canadian women ever to make the semis of the Rogers Cup. Beating top 5 players b2b... unranked Kenin up next. Crazy!
EDIT: Actually playing Kenin next rather than Serean/Osaka or Halep... bonus for her!Last edited by nvrstopworking; 08-09-2019 at 03:55 PM.

Just as you knew he would, Monfils delivers. Hands Nadal a walkover.
Why Nadal cares so much about Montreal is simple — he wants to be seeded No. 2 at the US Open and it will also be the only time in his career he's defended a title off clay. He's got a winning record in US Open finals against Djokovic although it's safe to say he would have been mercilessly thrashed last year. Even the always stubborn Federer knew it was wise to duck him.
The situation is simple. If Nadal beats Medvedev tomorrow he's guaranteed No. 2 seed.
If Medvedev wins his maiden Masters title then you can bet the house on Bull chartering a flight to Cincinnati instead of heading back to Majorca for a week of fishing.
Federer landed in Novak's half in Cincy and regardless of what he does Nadal only needs to win his QF match where the most likely opponent will be Kei "fcking lol" Nishikori. Federer's only hope is Medvedev winning Montreal and Nadal losing early in Cincy.
Full disclosure: as a fan I have no interest in seeing Federer take another finals loss to Djokovic in the event he somehow performed a miracle navigating his way through 6 rounds on those slow courts so I'm already looking ahead to Shanghai and a strong end to the year where he can hopefully be seeded #2 at the 2020 AO. That all hinges on the US Open. Nadal goes deep and he's locked that up too. He can gain all the way to the finish line.
Nadal hasn't beaten Djokovic on a HC in almost 6 years so he's got his work cut out for him.

lmao @ WTA
I love Med, because he's a wacky player and I enjoy watching his lanky style of play. I'm just sad he stopped standing in the tramlines to serve lol
but realistically its going to be a pounding. Pushing isn't going to bother Rafa, he'll just slowly build up the points and make his opponents choke on the pressure.

Serena knew she was gonna lose, and she faked her "injury" and then cried. Really pathetic. She can't stand to not have all the attention.
I really hope she never gets #24.
Nadal has been playing like **** all week, and he hasn't even been tested, so I could see an upset easily. Especially if Medvedev gets off to a quick start.
Nadal probably withdraws from Cincy if he wins.***SRT PR Crew (Strong Rep to Post Ratio Crew)***

Exciting times. What an era of tennis.

As much as Serena annoys me I have to give her the benefit of the doubt here. Apparently it was “back spasms”. Even if she didn’t want to lose I can’t see her retiring after 4 games against a 19-yr old after she shelled Osaka in the quarters.
Just a shame we couldn’t see what could have been an epic final.

08-11-2019, 11:03 PM #2722Who will break the dominance of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic?
”There has to be somebody", said the Serbian player.
"That time will come, but hopefully not too soon. We still play our best in the biggest events that matter the most. A lot of the NextGen guys are really tall and have big serves, which is a definitely advantage. If you look at Reilly Opelka… I never thought I’d see a player taller than John Isner,” laughed Djokovic.
“If you have a big serve and and an aggressive game, you already have three-quarters of what you need. Even though the surfaces are a bit slower these days, the serves are still difficult to return and it puts pressure on your own serve."
I'm not even blaming Nadal for skipping Cincy. If the tour were more competitive then he'd be forced to play for the points however it drops off a cliff after the Top 3 so he only has to keep an eye on Federer who plays a handful of events.
And bold text highlights the problem with the majority of them. That is probably all they need until they come up against those 3 in a big tournament and they're exposed as frauds. The way an almost 38 year old Federer annihilated an in-form Berrettini 1-2-2 on Centre Court said it all.

He's the best of the bunch but they're not slams or Masters finals which is where we want these guys stepping up. And what happened when he faced Nadal at the AO? 2-4-and KO'd.
Sampras on faster surfaces was every bit as good as the Big 3 on slower surfaces and his serve was elite right to the end. However the reality is when he started to decline a 19 year old Federer was there to take him out of Wimbledon in 5 sets as defending champ and a pair of fresher 20 year olds belted him in back to back US Open finals before he finally won one more slam and sailed off into the sunset.
When Agassi declined there was a 22-24 year old Federer waiting to pounce and exact revenge for all his floggings. His ballstriking was legendary, standing inside the baseline taking the ball early and making younger players look like fools scrambling side to side, but even he broke down.
There is no way you could convince me that these guys shouldn't be losing in slams and M1000 finals to younger players or at the very least being pushed to the limit.

Zoom in on Medvedev's face when Nadal gave his customary winner's speech heaping praise on his opponent. He looked down reflecting on how utterly pathetic it was to lose to a 33 year old like that.
If teenage Nadal showed up against 2019 Nadal he'd thrash him. Ditto for 2004 Federer against the current version or 2011 Djokovic against 2019 Novak. This shouldn't be happening.
THIS is what we want to see. That was peak Federer albeit on a super slow court but no excuses. That was the making of Nadal. And that was 23 year old Federer on the rise and not an old fart version like we see today.
I wish people would stop making excuses for what's happening.

Lastly when I mention Sampras I can hear Trudope with his "fcking lols" from across the Pacific thinking he's just some serve-volley dinosaur who'd be getting passed at will.
Absolute garbage. Put that guy during his peak on a 90s grass, indoor carpet, and US Open courts when they were genuinely fast, and he'd be carving up the current versions of "Big 3."
They look better than they really are because they have time to play defensively.
"fcking lol" if you think Djokovic with his amateur hour net skills and weak sauce serve would even be relevant here.

Yet another reason why I’ll actually tune in to watch Nick play any of the big 3. He’s the only player with any belief in him at this point. And he’s the only young player on tour who TRULY has a killer serve. Tsitsipas, Zverev, Khachanov and Med are tall... but they’re not servebotting their way through sets the way that he is.
Just lol at Cincy slotting some lucky loser into Rafa’s now vacant spot instead of moving Fed there. They have to change that bullchit. Final will be a joke.

I think I'm rooting for Tsitsipas to win the USO this year (unless an American makes a miracle run). He's shown (by far) the most chutzpah against the big 3 of any next genner, even if it hasn't been on the big stage yet. As Dom said, I think we all WANT to see a breakthrough and see someone actually challenge these guys. Are they still going to be 1-2-3 when they're 45 (and Fed is almost 50)? Someone eventually has to stop playing scared. Kyrgios does, but we all know he's not dedicated enough to be a full time champion.
