There is a study done in Iran that shows higher lean muscle mass composition is associated with higher systolic and diastolic blood pressures.

I train at an institution that is arguably the busiest level 1 trauma center in the nation. The average resident in 5 years graduates with 50-60+ open aortic cases from my institution. And I don't get mad when my post op patients go back to eating big macs and also smoke. Addiction is a real thing - I'm addicted to eating sh*t I know is bad for me, so I get it.

You probably use your right arm more often than your left. As a result, your muscles are bigger and push the superficial veins in your arms closer to the skin.

Plaque is formed in arteries. biggest risk factor is smoking. other big risk factors include diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure), and obesity.

When I was younger I always followed these forums and now from time to time I come here to look at posts. There's actually some good stuff posted here and I get quite the laugh each time. I used to a zyzz follower and he actually motivated me to get into bodybuilding, something I'm having a hard time doing nowadays as a busy resident.

The future of my field is better and more demanding than any field in medicine. With the aging population, we are going to have more and more people with blood vessel disease and there are only 3300 vascular surgeons in the U.S. We currently are in a shortage of vascular surgeons so job opportunities are endless. additionally, we have new endovascular innovative techniques that allow us to access blood vessels using minimally invasive techniques...so we don't have to wack someone open in big abdominal surgeries (which is what we used to do all the time to treat aortic aneurysms and ruptures - we now have to open people up with big incisions about 15-20% of the time). The new technologies are only getting better and better. Lots of money in this field. A friend of mine who just graduated the 5 year program got a job offer for 900k per year starting out...this can get to 2 million easy within 5 years of working as an attending surgeon.

Sorry didn't see the 2nd part of your question so I'm editing this post: I have not seen 3D printing used in my area of surgery. We get a lot of aortic grafts which we modify to feed the renal vessels and the mesenteric arteries, but we cut and sew on the grafts rather than print them. There's probably a big opportunity with 3D printing and vascular surgery at bedside though.
