FYI: The title of article linked by OP is false. Here is a link to their blog: http://www.simplycycling.org/about/
The Pamir route is pretty popular among cyclists and quite a few tour groups are setup to provide sag support. It is an understatement to say 1000's of western cyclists have biked through the region. If some of you ever bothered to leave your mom's basement or meemaws double wide yall would know this.
There is no ISIS held territory in Tajikistan. Thats why none of you Trumpers can point it out on a map. its a false narrative and yall dont like me calling you stupid for believing it.
I never understand americans....fearful of every cotdamn thing. We dont let our kids walk to school, ride their bikes unsupervised, always afraid. smdh.

Typical Trumper. Asking for facts is derailing a thread. lol.
Prior to the attack, the Trump state department had Tajikistan listed as level 1. Same as traveling to Japan.

more people were killed in Chicago last month than in Tajikistan in a year. By and large Americans are fearful...of everything. Thats why they dont let their kids out of their sights until they are 20yo.
Its factually false these people were traveling in ISIS held territory. It is also factually false they were doing this to prove the world is not evil. lol.
They were bike packers traveling the world. 2 of thousands that have bike packed through kyrgyzstan & tajikistan.
edit: to answer your question: Traveling to an underdeveloped country is not for everyone. The average american cannot handle being outside of cell service and operating with little to no government services. If a person is like that, no...they should not travel to countries like Tajikistan...and I certainly do not blame them for not wanting to travel to places like that.Last edited by ichBinBerliner; 08-17-2018 at 10:49 AM.

I cannot. Nor have I ever made any claims to the contrary. It looks like we can't really claim it ISIS free either, considering the recent attack and heightened travel advisory level.
That's fair. The wording in OP is probably pretty poor. It's not like ISIS has a known stronghold show there, but it's not exactly a leap of logic to assume there's far greater likelihood of there being ISIS members out there than most places in the world. And while their goal wasn't to prove the world and its people are good by nature, it's still an odd coincidence that they have that sort of documented mentality and chose to go to a place where common sense would say there's a higher likelihood of running into exactly that kind of evil they don't want to believe exists, just to be met with exactly that.Last edited by SpeedCheeser; 08-17-2018 at 11:04 AM.

Yeah...the US mainland cant make that claim either.
look, i get people need to exercise caution wherever they travel. my beef is the false narrative of two naive people trying to prove there are not evil people...and to prove this...they traveled to ISIS held territory. Just about everyone bought into that false narrative. Thats all I am going to say about it.

LOL, just LOL at all you retards falling for this fake news. Lets start off with a few facts:
1 - They were not riding through ISIS territory. There is no ISIS territory in Tajikistan. It has the lowest level of risk per US travel guidelines at level 1.
2 - They were not on a ride to prove "evil doesn't exist" - They were simply on a global bicycle tour.
3 - I have traveled to Tajikistan and have rode a motorcycle on that exact rode 7 years ago, it is VERY popular for world travelers, especially motorcyclist and bicyclist tourists.
LOL again at all of you falling for this fake, sensationalist news that you guys ATE UP. LOLOLOLOL I bet you were sooooo happy when you read this thinking SEE LOOK AT THESE STUPID LIBTARDS HAHAHAHA. Degenerates the lot of you.

See edited post above. That's a fair gripe. The OP is a hyperbole that distorts the truth.
No, they weren't out traveling through ISIS camps trying to prove that evil doesn't exist, but them having the mentality that evil wasn't real and then traveling to an area where that evil is much more likely to exist and then meeting it is still true.Misc Firearms Crew

The cartoon fantasy version of this story reminds me of that Canadian hitchhiking robot who made it across Canada, no problem man. But when they tried it in the USA, it died before it could leave Philadelphia.
But srsly, it's a very bad idea to visit places where we committed mass murder, torture and rape. Leisurely riding a bike with your wife in front of some guy whose nephew/aunt/goat got blown into jello is probably fairly triggering. Stay safe bros.

honestly: I would feel safer in tajikistan than DC. They just happened to be unlucky that day. They were traveling with a tour group on that particular leg of the journey. Started in SA, Namibia, Botswana. Zambia, Malawi, etc.
Almost no countries allow you to bring in firearms from another country...even in firearm friendly countries. Not to mention the holdup with CBP. You pretty much add an extra 3hrs the moment you mention form 4457.
I was in Nicaragua recently for a wedding and even with the civil unrest, just didnt bother me or anyone else in our party.
Keep in mind in underdeveloped countries you typically have more to fear from a local government official. You bring in a firearm and try to 'defend' yourself from them, you are not going to live one way or the other.
Like I said...americans live in such fear.

Post vids of you riding your bike all around the ME then.
Is it so hard to be afraid of the ME when your friends went to war in the ME and never came back? That still to this day my buddy is out there on tour #5?
Other buddy came back all fukked from the chit he went through.
But ya, Washington DC with a bunch of druggies/homeless is far more dangerous than a combat zone with deployed military troops.
You're the far opposite of the far right when you spew chit like that. Be real bro. If I was going to travel with my wife and kids around the world, Japan would come far before anywhere near the ME."We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit." -Will Durant
