In most cases, if someone is banned from a gym in a chain, they'll be banned from the whole chain. And gym managers move from gym to gym, so they're friends with other gym managers and let them know.

The obstacle to this is usually local anti-discrimination laws and policies. Someone who wants to can drag it out for literally years. Of course, it'd be more sensible for the guy to just start a home gym.

What people miss when they go full social media lynch mob is that this actually makes legal action more difficult. The guy's barrister can claim that all the hype prejudices his chances at a fair trial, in some cases this has meant charges were dismissed, in many others it meant copping a plea for a lesser offence. And even if the trial goes ahead, the accused can claim the social media drama in mitigation of their sentence, "suffered enough already," etc.

You may think all that is stupid, but that is the law. So it is better not to harass the accused. And of course, social media harassment can in some cases be a crime, too.

None of which considers the possibility of mistaken identity, etc. The harassers might get the wrong John Smith, or whatever.

It's wrong to put up false reviews of a business, but it's fair to contact the business and criticise their actions or policies, and to spread such clips around so that potential customers know what to expect. It's wrong to harass the accused. Let the law do its work.

It would be sensible for them to do a separate post to clear things up and make the drama drop down a bit. They don't appear to be sensible, though, or they wouldn't have this problem in the first place.

Speaking more generally, this shows how mainstream gyms are struggling with the rise of the training gym; losing 1/6 members to crossfits etc, they just don't know what to do. Trying to accommodate everyone ends up just pissing off everyone.

The way this gym has responded to this incident has been utterly embarrassing and incompetent, even myself as a non business owner who knows nothing about the business would know what to do in this situation, unlike these slimy kunts.

Additionally, Canada has always been very lax when it comes to sentencing or punishment in general, especially in the last few years. With motions such as M-103 being passed and hate speech (sections 318 and 319 of the Criminal Code) being pushed more than ever, anyone can claim "mental illness" or being a part of certain religions/ethnicities and as a result, can go from being the perpetrator to being the victim in one Thanos snap.
