Regardless of where it ended, he could declare it an unplayable lie and add a stroke. This would have left him with relatively certain two-putt, for an 8. So no, not that smart. It’s still stupid how much people are upset over this. He was frustrated and made a split second bad decision. People are acting like a lifetime of being a class act is completely wiped out by this. I thought it was hilarious."it's likely one of us will have to spend some days alone"

Hilarious
Some years ago I remember John Daly doing the same thing - hitting a rolling ball after a horrible putt. I can't remember where, but it might have been a US Open. He was frustrated that the course was too hard. As far as fits go, Daly's was worse than Michelson's. But, Daly got frustrated a lot. He was funny when he wasn't even trying to be.Helping one person may not change the world, but it could change the world for one person.

True story...I worked on golf course that Daly practiced on when he was in college playing. Super nice down to earth guy just wanting to have fun and rip the ball down the fairway as long as he could. He really didn't change much after he turned pro. Still likes his booze, smokes, and cheeseburgers a little too much I'm sure. Yes, he has done some very interesting things on the course for sure...

I follow the majors pretty closely, not so much the regular tour stops. Although they are pretty good background television to have on in the garage when working outside. I imagine it's like watching any other television show- much more interesting once you know the characters and story lines.

This is definitely one of those "they don't make them like they used to" items. Remember the old commercials about the Maytag repairman sleeping in his chair with his feet up on the desk because he didn't have any repairs to go do? I have one of those old units that put his repair service out of business. I have a set of top loading Maytag washer and front loading dryer that were purchased in 1990 that are still in regular use and getting the job done. They both have had only 1 repair each. Almost 30 years old. They don't make em like that anymore...
