Most kids dont have any autonomy yet. Even at 18yo theyre still girls and boys. They look to older people for guidance, they dont step up and take action. These kids dont have the courage to talk to their 5/10 crush, let alone grab life by the nuts and gang up on a shooter, or take initiative. All they know is how to defer, even if its life or death, hell even most adults retain this deferential nature to a crippling degree.

The problem with that logic is that you're allowing an entity to regulate who can or can't protect themselves from that very entity. Our founding fathers understood the consequences for all of this but firmly believed that the rights of the masses is more important.

Edit: Extremely sad circumstances. Regardless of the cause behind the shooting, numerous parties will no doubt hijack it to portray their own political agendas, while the victims will get no peace. The close temporal proximity within which these shootings are occurring is a sign of the sad state of affairs we live in today.
