    Chrome Eleiko plates

Does any one know if Eleiko (and Ivanko) are still making chromed rimmed plates and what product name they are (or were) given?

Ivanko is not, and Eleiko believe only makes the chrome in the change set. That said, I thought I recently saw a facility outfitted with chrome Eleiko PL discs, but I might be wrong.

I think they might have the entire supply for the world. So many extremely well outfitted gyms in CA. Eleiko. ) Jealous.

At least there ARE a few sources for chromed dumbbells. One from Titan and the other from a UK brand called Watson's. But, I would like to get my hands on a full 320-lb or 180kg set. Why aren't they more popular? Shrug. Cost?

A couple years ago Eleiko was shutting down their chrome plate inventory, I would speculate that the gym above had a line on the final inventory a while ago. I remember looking at those plates a couple years ago when they were on clearance but all the 45's were already sold out.

That would explain why you don't see chromed plates on either Eleiko's or Ivanko's websites. :P Though, you'd think someone would be making them if not for Eleiko or Ivanko like Watson's in the UK. How sweet it would be to have a 150-lb chrome dumbbell in one's collection..."...one day I will curl that!!" )

I can't imagine why you would be willing to pay the Eleiko premium for this when you can get nice calibrated plates from Rogue for far less, with free shipping even if you order $5K worth of stuff (not that hard to do in my experience)

Was just going to reply to his comment. And I'd like to add...Why doesn't ROGUE make chrome plates? Notice how many varieties of bars and plates they sell under their own brand name (plus Eleiko..though only 1 type iirc)? Several versions of the OHIO bar, OHIO Power Bar, theme bars (using Strongman winner's name, crossfit winner's names). Just added a bunch of Cerakote finished bars. And, why not make more chrome plate copies of the plates used in the Arnold Strongman Classic? There ARE collectors out there. Some collect vintage barbell sets. Plates, dumbbells and bars.

Interesting the people still making chrome plates are the English. Perhaps it's a EURO thing. That some Americans and CDN's are into as well. But as I said...Titan does make chrome dumbbells. Expensive but they do make them.

I realize this isn't what you were looking for, but I recently got some Werksan chromed, tungsten steel change plates with nice flat, machined and chromed backs. Machined/textured backs make them a little easier to grab, and combined with tight fit on bar, helps minimize movement and noise during olympic lifts (or good for adding some extra weight for any use where plate thickness matters). Not as quiet as rubber or urethane covered change plates, if that matters, but an improvement over normal painted steel or iron change plates.

I believe they also look better than other metal or rubber covered change plates new and probably with usage down the line. The 5 KG is especially nice looking (front and back), due to most chromed/machined steel. Not cheap, but most change plates aren't (FWIW, little cheaper than Rogue's rubber covered change plate set). I can't post links.

Atx makes some really cool stuff, especially speacialty barbells. Theres several Australian equipment makers i would love to order a few things from specifically ATX’s cambered bar and theres a trap step through bar from another susie company like the intek multi function but looks more heavy duty. A step through, dual handle, trap bar, preferably rackable is hiigh on my list of future purchases.
Would be great to be able t get ATX and Watson more easly in the states. I tred ordering an atx bar but no know who sells them ships to the states

Here in the UK The Gym Revolution are the sole suppliers of ATX equipment, I have a couple of ATX bars, 7' Power bar, which is excellent and ATX multi grip bar, which is functionally very good, but the build quality is not up to the same standard as the power bar.

I note on the TGR site a link for US customers, but I'm not sure if they ship the full ATX range to the US.

Thanks Richard, we may have way better supply of used commercial stuff, but you guts have much more interesting specialty bar options between watson' atx, and others. We have rogue, american barbell, vulcan and other terrific barbell companies, but no one really doing anything new and unique with specialty bars. They each offer a clone ssb, shrug, nuetral, amd curl bar and thats it. We get sporadic cool stuff, theres duffin “the one hit wonder”, and occationally EFT with things like the cambered nuetral bar there was a thread on yesterday. Inteks cool new trap bar that's great but $749 plus shipping and always out of stock. BWTG was offering interesting bars, he had a cambered bench bar like watsons but all 2” thick and his front squat bar in addition to the usual, so he was closest to a real line up of siecialty bars. Considering the size of the market between usa and England or Australia, its strange we dont have a watson like company or atx. Look at the specialty bar section of watson, its at least 5 times larger then rogue. They also KILL rogue in unique equipment. Rogue cant get a sinple lat pull Down dialed in, watson has dual lat pulldowns, rows with adjustable pulley snd seat height, leg presses with hydraulic langle adjustment they just put rogue to shame. There are a lot of other bar companies i see in engoand that are smaller names but also with lots of specialty bars

Product development wise Watson are streets ahead of anyone else in the UK, not only do they have their own development team, but they work with the likes of Charles Poliquin and Ben Pakulski, they also produce Westside designed pieces under licence and I believe Louis has also had some input.

Another plus for Watson is that they're prepared to customise their bars and machines.

Custom Kit produce some interesting pieces, specialising in Powerlifting, including the chrome calibrated plates mentioned earlier in the thread and still manufacture everything in the UK.

ATX has now moved it's manufacturing base to China and no longer produce anything in Germany, but their development team is still based there and their product line is expanding, as you mentioned, some very interesting specialist bars and cable attachments.
