Hi
They say that your body absorbs about maximum 30g of protein at one time.
When can I have a shake or eat meal after the last meal,so that I can absorb at least 30g of protein again?
Usually people do it every 3 hours, but how frequent can we do this? After I had a meal, when can I have the earliest meal so that I absorb that much protein again?
It depends on the type of protein that you are consuming. Whey protein digests very quickly, and you would be ready to go again in perhaps an hour. Beef takes much longer--about 4 hours as I recall, although I may be way off. Most bodybuilders eat ~6 meals a day, with about the same amount of protein in each meal (with the exception of post workout, where many double up on the protein).
Sometimes the spacing of the meals line up so that I have to eat 1 or 2 hours after the last meal(this can be a milk&egg shake,or a meal consisting of eggs or cheese etc). So I worry about if I can absorb at least 30g of protein on that last meal...
You have probably digested quite a bit of the protein you consumed in an hour. Further, 30 grams as the maximum amount of protein you can digest from a meal may not be an accurate figure. (I suspect it is more like 40 or 60 g.) In any event, eating a meal an hour earlier or later will have a negligible effect IMO, so you should be fine.
Originally posted by bigfina 30 grams of protein per meal is not ****. that is complete bull. your body is a lot better than you think at processing your foods.
ya there is no data supporting that your body can only digest 30grams
