I once got reported to HR by a gay guy because I asked if another co-worker, whose brother is gay, if they always knew his brother was gay when he was little or not til he was much much older... gay co-worker overheard my question from the break room (we were in the warehouse). I had to explain myself to HR, two managers, then had a manager, gay co-worker who reported me and I in a meeting to discuss what happened and how we can move on from this.. i'm like wtf. Gay co-worker claimed I was a homophobe and he doesn't feel comfortable working with me anymore because I hate his kind. I said I just asked a question, i am sorry you overheard it, it was nothing offensive and I shouldn't have brought it up at work, i'm sorry. Manager was okay with what I said, said okay can we move on? shake hands? Gay co-worker says "no, i don't accept his apology" and walked out.
