just in case our little neck of the woods did not make it across your newsfeed
big happening around here yesterday
we had a shooting on campus
two fatalities
police force, with dogs, helicoptors everywhere
19 year old sophomore
killed both his parents
who were coming to pick him up
spring break began yesterday
for all students..
apparantly, police took this young man
to the hospital the night before
on a drug related issue
his parents were notified
his father was a Chicago police officer
when they arrived to get their son
he shot both of them with his father's gun
the campus was on lock down most of the day
with automated system that called my phone and emailed me every hour with updates
most of the town was encouraged to stay in doors
most of the schools and business offices were also on lock down
I picked my son up from high school with a police escort to my car
the young man has since been caught
he tried to get out of town on a train around midnight
someone spotted him and now the police have him
Another young kid flips out. I can't imagine being mentally disturbed enough to kill one's parents. A very sad day for that family. I can certainly understand the concern in the community while this played out.
I hate to get political, but which of the "common sense" gun law ideas being floated around could have prevented this? None that I know of.
