Oh lawd, you can't make this stuff up.
Americans who practice yoga contribute to white supremacy, Michigan State University professor claims
White people who do a downward-facing dog are contributing to a “system of power, privilege, and oppression,” according to a Michigan State University professor.
Shreena Gandhi, a religious studies professor at Michigan State, claims in an article she recently co-authored that Americans who practice yoga are contributing to white supremacy and promote the “yoga industrial complex.”
White Americans should learn yoga’s history, acknowledge the cultural appropriation they engage in and possibly reduce the cost of yoga classes for poor people, a group that often includes people of color and “recent immigrants, such as Indian women to whom this practice rightfully belongs,” Gandhi argued.

If there was ever an industry that rested on its laurels and never did anything: liberal arts academics. They still keep harping the same Marxist claptrap from 150 years ago through the french philosopher movements of the 1960s. No innovation. No original ideas. Nothing to actually change or influence the world positively.
They are so out of touch with the reality.
Everytime they spout this chit it's akin to a bad joke you heard at 5 years old and everyday onward. Only they believe they're bringing you a new joke.

OP, you LITERALLY have no idea what you're talking about. Shreena's point isn't as simple or stupid as you make it seem.
It's about retarded AMERICANS adopting the Yoga culture, turning it into a fashion statement (yoga pants), and constantly blogging about it. America is essentially bastardizing what "yoga" actually stands for. And this INCLUDES Indian Americans. It's about people practicing Yoga without acknowledging it's true roots and the culture associated with Yoga. You have actual yogi's who practice yoga as a lifestyle, and then you have retarded women who post pictures of themselves doing all sorts of poses on instagram, showing the world how "unique and livelaughlove" they are.
The article failed to mention Shreena's point about how yoga fashion creates a false "ideal" body in women. Yoga pants is targeted toward middle-upper class, slim, white women. It contributes and creates the ideology that "slim, white women" are the "ideal" women. Go ahead and google image yoga pants.
The article on Fox is LITERALLY full of ****. It is distorting what her actual point is. How do I know? Because I was a guest student in her class, read her excerpt on this subject, and discussed this subject with her. I also wrote a paper on this subject, too.Attract toxic girls but I'm not toxic crew

Don't write it off as something stupid or insignificant. America took Yoga, said "fuk u" to the culture and lifestyle behind it, turned it into a marketable fashion statement and sold it to a bunch of upper class "livelaughlove" white girls. America does this all the time with cultures.
No one likes their culture being stolen and bastardized in the form of a "trend". Companies shouldn't be charging $135 for a pair of yoga pants that only slim, thigh gapped women can wear. It's not that other women of different body styles should be able to wear yoga pants. It's that the industrial complex is using Yoga as a method of social conditioning and making money off of it.
Her main point is (and I literally just took this from her paper on the subject) "Religion, spirituality, simple exercise—none of these are exempt from the reaches of capitalism and a society that values material stability and domination over all else.”Last edited by RainingBlood; 01-29-2018 at 07:05 PM.

Just more whining from non-whites about whites, as usual. She's the one with the problem with race. It's not about race, but they make it out to be. "herp derp not respecting my culture". They don't even respect their own culture, defecating in the street and chit. Protectionism. You see how people like her think and you can see why their countries are chitholes.
