Trainer at the gym rustled my jimmies

So I´m currently on Starting Strength, doing 3x5, have had great progress (squat gone up from 70kg x 5 to 120x5 in 2 months).

Today I was going to do Bench Press (77.5 kg), and asked a female trainer for a spot, just to get a lift off.
Failed on my 4th rep and racked the bar and then deloaded 2,5kgs.

So after doing the first set, that trainer proceeded to ask me why I was doing such low reps. I explained, because I'm strength training and wanted to get my lifts to intermediate level blablabla.

She fawking laughed it off and said I was doing everything wrong, I asked why, she said I wasn,t going to gain any muscle doing this, and if I wanted to gain muscle I had to high reps. I told her, that was not the purpose of starting strength, and she asked me why the **** did I want to get stronger (fkin lol). Yeah why get stronger, because its way easier to make hypertrophy gains when you bench 2 plates instead of one.
She didnt understand any of this, and said I was doing a routine that was not for me, cuz i dont have foundation. Bitch, 5x5 is the foundation to any srs lifter.

But wait, just when I thought that it couldnt get worse, she started giving me bull**** advice about getting "toned", if i wanted to get a defined body i had to do "tonification workouts" (lmfao) with more than 15 reps per set to tighten the muscles and not low reps cuz that would get me nowhere. She then pointed to a pic that was on the wall of a bodybuilder with 6-7% bf.
I was talking calmly until she said that, then i lost my frame. Like wtf, the guy is only defined because he is at fawking negative percentage body fat, not because he was doing "tonification workouts".

We were talking for like 10 mins while I was resting between sets. Oh, and she also said that she wasnt going to help me unrack the bar, bc if i couldnt unrack the weight then I was lifting too much weight (i usually see trainers helping the whole set, how ironic).

    CLIFFS:

-asked a trainer for a spot on the bench
-she said strength training was useless, cuz it doesnt give hipertrophy
-she told me i wouldnt get my dream body if i didnt do high rep tonification workouts
-she didnt help me unrack the bar, even though I usually see all the trainers there help the whole lifts.

I guess that you didn't get the memo, bro. Starting Strength was basically a giant internet prank by fat neckbeards to turn lifters into bulbous, weird bodied specimens like themselves.

This tbh bro. Strength training is fun but I'd never do SS because of low volume for upper body

Sure if you want to lift heavy I suppose its the way to go. If you want to actually LOOK like you lift, gotta up that volume.

Bro when I first started I was in same boat, trainers would say I was doing wrong rep range, moving too fast, doing too much weight, would critique my form and chit..brb not even 12 months later when was squatting and pulling over 400 injury free at like 165lbs the same exact *******s would stand around and watch me do my lifts, would take vids, and would ask me for advice. I would just listen to them thank them, then go back to what I was doing unless I thought their input was actually valuable (which sometimes it was)

OK but you should be able to unrack your weights and I'm 80% sure you shouldn't be failing lifts on the 5x5 program. It's not good for gains. Also, teen misc ->

    lmao sloots

If natty, the only way to go is low reps brah... 3-8 rep range, 8 if you want more hypertrophy and comfort, 3 if you really want to push yourself and focus more on strength. Dumb bitch doesn't know what she's talking about. Gorillas that go in and do 20 reps with medium weight are able to do it because they are on some of dat secret sauce. You can watch the Pianoman's video on this. Search The Truth - Natty Training. Tell the sloot you can help her tonify her glutes tonight.

If you haven't noticed that men's comments are as uninformed, then you haven't been paying attention. And some time in black iron gyms might reverse your opinion, since women tend to be better-accepting of instruction, are more likely to change their diets to help their results, and stick with training programmes for longer.

In my gym, around a 120kg squat, 75kg bench and 140kg deadlift, the males commonly want to "back off to work on form", or explain that they won't come for another term because "busy at work... need to spend more time with family... the commute's getting tough." They weren't busy at work with a 60kg squat, when they benched 60kg they didn't care about their family, and with an 80kg deadlift the commute was no problem. Thus, only 1/3 of males do more than 3 months before pissing off to sit on the couch or do some random nonsense, but 2/3 of women do.

So the issue here is not the trainer's gender, but just that like most trainers she was uninformed. Most trainers have never had a trainer, have never been through the process of training, whether it be for strength or 5km run time or sixpack abs or whatever, and most have less than 12 months' experience. I talk about it a bit in this thread. However, it is generally a fair assumption that an adult will know more than a 17 year old.

OP, it would have been more productive to say, "I'm following the Starting Strength method. I can't explain it really well, I just follow it. You can look it up, there are lots of books and articles online." And leave it at that.

He will have started his weights too high and be doing too big a jump between sessions. This is almost universally true amongst males doing barbell routines on their own.

ITT: OP mad cause hot trainer with fit chad crossfit boyfriend hasnt heard of 5x5 madcows myth which OP only knows about from trolling the internet - "clearly she hasnt trawled the net like I have".

TBH I would start people with high reps 12-20 so they can practice the actual movement for the first few lifting weeks ever. Then when youre able to perform the same movement with consistency work down to 1-5 reps.

No, this is not necessary. But your mention of the internet, and this guy being a teen, brings up an important point, which is best-expressed by ol' Stevie P.

Fuking females when will they learn...

Had another female trainer stop me mid set when I was doing conventional deadlifts saying I was doing bad form, then I asked her what good form was and she grabbed a mini barbell and showed me romanian deadlifts instead (srs)
Apparently I was doing "crossfit" deadlifts for her

When it comes to health and fitness I've come to one conclusion...

99% of people don't know chit.

It drives me nuts when someone tries to give me fitness advice regurgitated from...
A guy i know... blah blah blah" or "I watched a youtube video". Unless you're a top tier athlete or have done something impressive gtfo.
