Serious question: why make yet another crypto thread when there's hundreds discussing every bit of it in the crypto mega threads?

brb
gold = 3x return in 15 years
bitcoin = 3x return in 15 weeks
if we're going to 'invest' in either with no intrinsic value might as well be bitcoin

Gold has basically done nothing but go down and then trade sideways a little bit since it's peak in 2011 at around 1800 or whatever. I own quite a bit of gold eagles, and, while I'll never sell them, I consider them to just be a loss. I assume the POG right now is about 1250-1300 because that's what it's been for years, and I don't even pay attention to it. Meanwhile, bitcoin has had the kind of growth that no other commodity in the history of the world has had. Yeah, what goes up must come down, but bitcoin is more than just a bubble, there is obviously a lot of money behind it, and it's global.
Also, I think one of the huge reasons why bitcoin has had this kind of stellar growth is that people haven't been able to short it. Jp Morgan can't just go in and short tons of bitcoin when they don't even possess any of it, and they can do that with gold. If you want to sell bitcoin, you have to own it first.

Gold has never really earned money; it's largely kept the same value over years. Gold has (mostly) the same purchasing power these days as it did decades ago. So really you're just holding onto the value you have accumulated. Whereas with others it will fluctuate in actual value and increase or decrease in value.

Question for traders: Name me the stocks that have had Bitcoin-level gains within the last two years, ie. $1000 to $10,000 in one fiscal period.

NOt only can nobody name a stock that can compete with bitcoin, they can't name any financial instrument. Better challenge would be to name one tradeable asset in the past 4,000 years in any civilization or empire that can compare with bitcoin. Maybe the price of grain in Egypt during some ancient famine. Bitcoin makes the dutch tulip mania look like just a little blip.

I work in an investment bank and even people here have different opinions on Bitcoins. Some people have dumped a huge proportion of their wealth into it, some have a couple of grands "just for fun and have something in common to talk to people", some are on the fence and some are 100% skeptical.
In short: no one knows.
Edit: I'm in the "investing just for fun" group. A good conversation starter every morning.

gold is the most historic value holding asset
the same goes for plot land
but since 2014...bitcoin for those who bought on 2014
is considered lucrative
even the stock market, went from 8000 to 23000 in a 4 year period
so it depends on what is more lucrative, and what bring the gains to the orginal money invested
sadly i havent invested in bitcoinNegging "Firesofass" crew on sight.
I will crush you,Your tragedy will come.
