Do most people say Merry Xmas or Happy Holidays? And if they say Happy Holidays is it because they say it before work break or school break or something where they won’t see the person for a few days so they say Happy Holidays to include all the holidays? I’m sure on Dec 24 or 25 most people would say Merry Xmas and not Happy Holidays.

The more I think about this the madder I get bc its dumb af. If its Dec 15 and a store has “Happy Holidays” as a banner why is that wrong when there are multiple cultures and people celebrating different things. Might as well have one banner for each holiday and hang it up.

Alot of people celebrate multiple holidays. I know many Jewish people that will celebrate Hanukkah and Christmas. If I said Merry Christmas they would return the greeting. Christmas doesn't have to be strictly a religious thing because the word Christ is in it.

I have a simple solution to this that I use ..If someone says "Merry Christmas" "Happy Holidays" or any of the other greetings I simply say "Same to you" and go on with my life , this is not an important issue .

That's the thing. We are doing just fine with how things are. Some people say one thing, and other people say differently. That's society. The president is going to blow this thing up. Now it's going to become a huge deal.

If its Dec 15th and you are going on school break is it more appropiate to say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays seeing as how school returns Jan 8th or whatever and “Happy Holidays” includes Xmas, Haunakah, New Years, the days around those days, and whatever else people celebrate. If its Dec 24 or 25 I’m sure 100% of people would say Merry Xmas.

Every other week Congress gets something new added to their plates. I don't even know how they can get any accomplishments this year. There is probably less than a month of legislation days remaining in the year. And they need to focus on keeping the govt open as we get closer to the end of the year

It's important that we do not forget who we are, and it's important that we do not dilute ourselves by making widespread efforts to absorb and express foreign cultures. Same for Thanksgiving, Independence Day, etc.

Why pick Kwanzaa specifically here? It's been celebrated as the first African-American holiday for about 50 years. At least two generations have celebrated it their whole lives. At what point does it become a "real" holiday. Is Hanukkah a "fake" holiday in your mind? It goes back to the Old Testament. What about Jehovah's Witnesses? They don't celebrate Christmas at all. Does that make them "fake" Christians?

The point is, "Merry Christmas" respects some Christians. "Happy Holiday" respects everyone.

For me it's about family gathering, dinner and grandma's cookies. Gifts are pretty modest since there's nothing I need that I don't already have. Same with family members.

Christmas can be about consumerism if you make it so. I choose not to participate in that.
