anyone fuked by student loan debt?

    lets here those horror stories.

My gf used to work with a guy that took 120k out for a 4 year bio degree. The guy lived at home, and everything he made went to his loans cuz his payment was something like $1k per month.

Gf took out 23k, worked through school, and came out with two degree lol

Took out 17k, so nah. I just need to be more aggressive paying it off.

No, my parents paid for my undergrad degree at a state school (not super rich, my dad is a mechanical engineer and budgeted properly for his children's future) and I paid for my graduate degree at a state school in cash while working and living at home. Zero debt crew.

Some kids just don't have the financial knowledge at 18 years old to understand what impact it will have on the rest of their lives, and their parents are just as ignorant.

I came out with about 28k in debt, but with engineering and economics degrees. I could have probably come out without any debt, but that's a moot point now. I'll have mine paid back in about 2 more years. Some of my friends came out with 2-3x as much and will be making payments until their halfway through their careers.

The bs thing is the interest rates on student loans. Brb encourage everyone to go to school. Brb here we have loans. Brb 7% interest phucking govt.

I graduated 11 years ago. Basically had like 22k in loans. I calculated how much I've paid the other day and its around 20k. I still owe 20k. Such bs

I was the first kid to go to college for my family. They would tell me to take a bunch of money to live off of also. I basically was told it was normal and I was like "alright where do I sign." It's annoying cuz I was basically the guinea pig for college loans for my sister who was in middle school at the time. When I graduated and got asked to make my first payment it was like 850 dollars a month.

I was 85-95k in debt. I refinanced it so my interest rate is 1.25% now. It was 6.5% and wasn't getting anything paid off. I paid it down over 50k now. I make a 1000 payment a month when I only need to pay like 250 or something.

Luckily my wife has a decent career and had 0 students loans. It would suck if we both had some.

Actually back in school ATM but the plan is to make more, live at the same level and get to the point where I can at least start making an appreciable impact on the debt.....

especiall noting the post above you...were these private student loans because all information i've found said that you can't negotiate interest on fed loans. I mean if i had 1% interest i could actually , pay more than interest.

$1k/month is nothing when you're an adult.

I'm so sick of listening to *******s complain about their student loan debt. It was an investment that you hopefully applied successfully to get a good career. fuking millenials will pay $800 for an iphone and then are completely mind=blown when they can't afford their student debt payment that month. Save your fukin money. Stop looking at 1st world LUXURIES as if it's a necessity. You don't NEED a new car. You don't NEED to buy a brand new kitchen table & chairs. You don't NEED to pay more than $150 for a fukin PHONE. You don't NEED to buy a home with no down payment and pay $700/mn on interest alone.

I have no debt, tons of cash leftover every month. Makes me rage. "oh paying these student loans is so HARD" while driving a 2017 bmw and talking on an iphone 8. go fuk urself.
Spoiler alert; you die at the end.

What did you refi through? Mine has used to be FAFSFA or whatever then they sold to Navient. I've played around looking at a few refi companies and they are always around the same it seems like6-7%. I have good credit so I'm like there has to be a way to get a much lower rate.

There should be some mandatory crash course about the implications of said loans.

    What debt isn't dischargeable (bankruptcy)
Estimating future earnings and how long it'd take to pay off
Cashflow with monthly expenses of such earnings

    Etc.

Then again my dumbass 18yr old self would probably still not take that advice. Fortunately I'm in canada where education is much cheaper than it is for you guys.

I agree with this, honestly. You (and I) were given the money to make an investment in our human capital. If you utilized it well, and didn't go for some BS degree you'll be on top.
If not, well that was your fault.

They consolidated all the loans into one giant loan. It is great to actually see the student loan amount actually go down now. It is an interest rate that can increase but not go over a certain percentage which is a lot lower than the normal interest rate. The maximum is like a .25% a year.

I had several friends consolidate with the same bank also.

I was getting nowhere with the 6.5% and above interest.

That's...really awesome, I'll have to look around to see if that's even an option with me, living in Texas, and having already consolidated my loans with navient 4 years ago and all.

I have heard countless horror stories of my friends going broke due to student loan monthly payments. I feel so bad for them

My current roommate got off easy, racked up 100k in debt, parents and grandparents paid it all off cause he's "they're favorite" and lovesss to brag about it. I'm severely rustled by this kid, so I do what I can to piss him off when I'm home.

I accumulated something like 20k at a community college, BUT I had to do some active duty time to get that chit paid for :/

Definitely agree some should have looked at all the options in life and taken the personal responsibility.

I have around 4-5k in student loan debt, really low right? I quit school because I had more opportunities than If I actually went to school and finished my degree.

Was not about to come out of college with 40k in debt when I can make very good money else where.

    Honestly so much this.

Was fortunate to have parents pay undergrad. "I'll pay for four years, five with a minor" deal.

May be 1 credit short for my 2018 graduation though and that might put me 30k in the hole. Hoping I dont join you boyos

I know a bunch of people who went out of state and who had like 80-100k coming out of school. I went in-state and got some scholarships and worked a little through school. I paid for all of tuition but parents helped out a for rent so I had 14k and paid it off in 9 months out of school.

Never go full retard out of state.
