in other words, it depends on the hernia type, but a hernia actually could lead to a larger protrusion outside of the hernia itself (i.e. the entire anterior abdominal wall). it's unlikely that Phil was dealing with something of quite that nature, but just to answer your guys' questions, that would be an example of the hernia being the cause

Hes won without abs and that belly button sticking out for a couple of years now. Its just this year he had a huge gut, which had nothing to do with a hernia.

actually no, that's from 2014. He was pretty decent in 2015, 2016 was very good though.

We're not discussing how a hernia, in theory, could explain a protruding stomach. We're discussing how it would explain a protruding stomach in this case. Phils stomach looks nothing like the sort you would see if you had a really large hernia.

His bellybutton has been the same pretty much his entire career. If he has a hernia, it doesn't show in the pics. But hernias, depending on the diagnosis, can definitely cause bloating and other gastrointestinal issues. If he was in pain during the Olympia, that would explain why he relaxed his stomach so much in between poses. Again, I'm just speculating here!

It's absolutely true. His bellybutton was always sticking out. Whether it's more or less, that depends on the photo, pose, and whether he is bloated or not. Obviously it has grown a bit, but it's always been protruding outwards.

Phil looked great last year, but damn when I see how tight his waist was early on I really miss that version of Heath.
