The angle was the problem, legs don't bend that way. I wonder if it would've been worth it to try breaking them.

You die fairly painless from being upside down for too long. Usually results in a brain hemorrhage from the blood rushing to your brain and lungs.

In this case that wouldn't even do anything. Look at the picture. The problem was his feet would go straight up into the ceiling, leaving no room for the rest of his body to move up.

The part of this I'm confused about is it said he didn't have enough room to back out of the cave, but meanwhile his brother, their friend, and a ton of rescuers were able to go in and out of that section in the rescue attempt.
