Only drawback to pits. Awesome dogs who dig people, playing, eating and sleeping but other living things generally don't set their world on fire. They're very well bred and very specifically bred, and kept responsibly away from sudden introductions to other animals they're absolutely amazing dogs. Will not stop playing, great for guys very much a man's dog.

There are a few "wolf dogs" the closest you will get is a Saarloos then possibly the Utanagan but they are all come from slinging a SGD in with a wolf and then sorting out the litter from there.
If you're asking for the best overall best breed of dog then it depends on your lifestyle and reasons for getting the dog.
All dogs are adaptable but it boils down to what extent they get to full fill their natural instincts that determines how satisfied and amenable they become.
I have had GSD's and I wouldn't hesitate to get another but I would ensure I really put the leg work into researching the lines. I love my two collies to bits and it is a pleasure working with them but for me personally, the Saluki cannot be matched by any other dog. I have never laughed r enjoyed being around a dog as much as I did when I had my saluki x whippet. A real eye opener to the breed and the more I looked into them and learned about them the more I fell in love with them.
I already know the dogs I want when I go "off grid" and the GSD is the chosen day to day one so I'll opt for that from your list. Their herding and livestock instinct is a beautiful thing to watch and witness (collies you are just controlling the hunt and eliminating the bite) plus they cover the base for alerting and warning. I would love to utilise a Leonberger but that and the GSD would bring up conflicting traits.

Labrador retriever, Golden retriever and German shepherd are top tier puppers. All three are smart and loyal puppers if you raise them well. Just make sure you have your Labrador or Shepherd interact with strangers and other puppers from an early age otherwise it will be vicious phuck which perceives all strangers as threats and tears everything and everyone its unfamiliar with, to shreds. Owners who neglect their puppers, who do not take it for walks and do not train it, rustle my jimmies especially if they are Retrievers or Shephards which require some extra effort in raising them due to their size and temperament. OP become a good owner for your pupper and it will be a forever loyal and grateful pupper.

Pitbull breh checking in. Love my lil buddy and wouldn't trade him for any other dog. The neighborhood kids flock to my place on the weekend to take him for a walk

Thanks. Yep, he's a brindle APBT.
And yeah, he's pretty damn athletic. He gets to play with my neighbor's saluki all the time, so he gets that sprinting time in. Incredibly friendly, an not just with people he knows. He's happy to be greeted by any stranger, even if it was in my house and i wasn't there (chitty guard dog...)"Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity"

I like all sorts of dogs, I really think muts make the best companion pets. They seem to have more personality and they seem to be more intelligent. I really like Basset Hounds and Beagles also.
