Bran isn't strong enough to warg into the Night King. He can only warg into Hodor because he isn't even there mentally, otherwise its just animals.
I don't think that there is any deeper twist. I literally think that this was their stupid attempt at a "bet you didn't see that coming!" moment just like Star Wars ****ting on all those people who spent all that time on fan-theories by killing Snoke out of nowhere and making him irrelevant.
This episode was brutal. It completely destroys Jon's entire storyline as he was more or less irrelevant in the defeat of the White Walkers despite basically fighting them since Season 1, the multiple stand-offs with the Night King, etc. What exactly was he brought back to life for? So that he can **** his aunt? All that **** just so that his John Wick-esque cousin who didn't even know what the White Walkers were until two episodes ago could fly in out of nowhere and kill this unstoppable force in 0.5 seconds LMAO. "Bringing together Ice and Fire"...both Jon and Daenerys were basically pointless in the grand battle against the Night King.

I thought it was awesome. Why is a magical, face-swapping assassin who trained with the best assassin in the world less likely to kill the Night King then a dude who just learned to fight from the random sword guy at the castle he grew up at?
Have you seen manlet, pretty boy Jon Snow? Arya has way higher testosterone levels.
The whole predictable main character killing the main villain is super expected and nothing expected ever happens in Game of Thrones. Plus the prophecy set Arya up seasons ago. Bunch of whiners.

Why? Because her character arc has literally zero connection to the White Walker plot, in fact, she didn't even know they existed until a few episodes ago, let alone seen one in person. Stealing from elsewhere: it's like Chewbacca coming out of nowhere to kill Darth Vader. Surprise! How unsuspecting, right? The problem is that it is ****ty storytelling. Jon doesn't need to save the day, but to make him a literal side-character in his own storyline (the White Walkers were HIS thing) so that his cousin who is basically a walking Terminator at this point can teleport out of nowhere and kill this God-like villain in a second is a slap in the face and breaks their own narrative (again, why was he brought back to life then? Don't say to unite the northern houses because none of that meant anything in this war as they would never beat the White Walkers in battle anyway, hence them using this plan to use Bran as bait in an attempt to take out the Night King solo).
By the way; Jon has infinitely more actual fighting experience than Arya, and the "random sword guy" he learned from would have been a highly skilled knight which means that he would get ACTUAL sword training. Furthermore, Arya's ASSASSIN training would mean very little in total warfare like you saw in that episode; which makes her running around kicking ass in head-to-head combat even more ridiculous. I love how you are supposed to believe that this tiny little girl can train for a few weeks with these assassins, and what, now she's basically the best fighter in Westeros? If the Faceless Men are this strong, then why even attempt to battle the army of the dead anyway? Why not just hire one of them and have him sneak up and kill the Night King while you use Bran as bait?
The prophecy didn't set ****. That initial meeting with Melissandre where she told her about her "shutting eyes" happened long before they decided that Arya would kill the Night King, which means that it was obviously ONLY a reference to the fact that Arya would go on to become an assassin. It just so happened that it conveniently lined up nicely once they did decide that Arya would kill the NK, so they rehashed it to make it appear like they weren't completely pulling things out of their ass. This wasn't some secret plan that they thought out well in advance, they basically admitted that they did it so as to "break expectations". Basically killing 10 years of story and character development so that they could have a "you didn't see that coming, did you?" moment. Lame.

Yup. They wanted to wrap it all up in six episodes, what we got is pretty much it IMO.
To me it's pretty obvious that if this weren't the last season, based on the backlash this is one of those times where they would be writing sh!t in season 9 to somehow make everything have deeper meaning or seem as if it were all part of something grander to cover their asses.Death is impossible for us to fathom: it is so immense, so frightening, that we will do almost anything to avoid thinking about it. Society is organized to make death invisible, to keep it several steps removed. That distance may seem necessary for our comfort, but it comes with a terrible price: the illusion of limitless time, and a consequent lack of seriousness about daily life. We are running away from the one reality that faces us all.

Im fuking dying laughing at all these muppets coming up with all these complex theories for the night king.
Hes gone! They fuked it up. Its all COPE.
Literally the most basic unimaginative character there ever was. Zero backstory or understanding of any of his motivation even what he wanted to do.
Read things like Bran is now the NK or Cersei will become the new NK or the NK ‘soul’ transferred to Aryas baby. Fukin lol

The NK's death was way too one-dimensional and generic for me. All the build up over the seasons about how powerful and sinister he is and he ends up being stabbed by a young girl and dying from a single wound, all because of the material of which said blade was made from. THAT part was unimaginative writing and just seems like they couldn't think up a more creative demise for the NK.

D&D want to subvert expectations, I'm totally expecting reverse deus ex machinas now.
Cersei gets cornered, then right before our heroes can kill her, a dozen faceless men appear out of nowhere and kill half the cast. Oh yeah, Jon Snow goes out to take a piss, slips on poo and hits his head on cement and dies.

Yeah it wasn't just the lighting. It waa shaky cam, cuts so fast you can't tell what's going on, no continuity in the characters actions and locations (e.g. jorah wants to go to dany so he teleports to dany. He knows she's in trouble BEFORE she's in trouble. Arry Sue wants to go to NK so she teleports to NK). The episode being shot all in shades of black was just the beginning, the entire episode was a MESS.
It wasn't just the horrible schlock writing that destroyed 9 years of plot for a "gotcha!" moment, the plot armor, the nonsensical battle tactics, the pointless crypt sub plot that affected none of the characters, the dragon fight where you can't tell who is who because Jon and NK are fighting in a storm cloud and they randomly intercut dany's face even though she's not involved.
The direction was terrible too. There were a few beautiful individual shots - the dothraki lights going out. Actually that's the only one I can think of. But it was the combination of terrible direction, terrible writing, and terrible editing (darkness) that made this the worst episode in Thrones history. The only one that reviewed lower was only because of 10 seconds of graphic rape during the #metoo movement, not because the episode was of such poor quality overall.
And the worst part is THEY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER. They saw the outcome of the Last Jedi. They saw what it did to Solo's box office - the only financial loss in a 50 year old franchise. They did it anyway because they're either stupid, don't care, or both.Last edited by stevedarsh; 05-05-2019 at 05:51 AM.

bruh. if u think the directing was terrible, ur invalid bruh. writing was very questionable and lacked intelligence no doubt but the directing is top notch.
and definitely not the worst episode in thrones history lmao. the dorne **** were the worst episodes.
i think people with the darkness problem have color issues with their devices. i thought it was too dark at first then i looked it up and my video card color settings were too jacked up or down with brightness or contrast, and my app wasn't at the right settings. when i fixed it, i had no problem at all.
i'm actually really sad my favorite character had to go down. theon greyjoy man.
the only one of the main chars that fought like a beast aside from arya

Nah, it was definitely a lack-luster episode. It's disappointing that the badass zombie army is already over, no major deaths, limited effect on overall plot.
The battle of the bastards is a better combat episode, and almost any other episode propels the plot better.
It would have simply been more interesting if the NK circumvented Winterfell entirely, forcing them to chase after, each major faction falling one by one until the iron throne has a stable occupant.
Now it doesn't really matter that the iron islands are conquered, it's a land war anyway. Everything is back to square one, minus the badass zombie army.
Poor choices were made IMO.
Edit; choppy and unclear. GOT usually has bright vistas. They should have shot it 30 Days of Night style for clarity.

People are just mad about the writing and sperg about all the other things too, because they are in a rage ...
Directing was 9/10
Cinematography 10/10 (those shots above the clouds, the Dothraki's lights going out)
Music 10/10
Storyline ... 4/10 (not necessarily because of Arya, for me mostly because of plot armor on Brienne/Jaime/Sam/Tormund/Gendry and terrible tactics - if you kill off Sam and Jaime and have the catapults at a place where they make sense, its a 7/10 for me)
I am more disappointed about the missed opportunities. After all, killing Jaime in this episode would have been added motivation for Cersei to go ape**** on them (yes, she sent Bronn after Tyrion AND Jaime, but Jaime really dying would have been a way to explore how conflicted she felt after-the-fact). Killing Sam would have removed one of the characters that know Jon is the rightful heir ... with Bran being potato it would have been a good setup for Daenerys to reject Jon's heritage as a lie and add conflict between them, etc..
Night King wants the three-eyes-raven ... then circumvents them to go for Kings Landing for some weird reason, letting Bran live/escape? Yeah ... no.
"For the night is dark and full of terrors ... except in a fight, then we light up the scene". Glad you are not a writer.Last edited by GotNext; 05-05-2019 at 06:33 AM.

i agree with that.
the directing + cinematography + music made the episode. cannot go wrong with that director. he knows what he's doing.
the writing however, i agree. but i'm not super pissy about it because sapochnik killed it with his part. so it ended up very enjoyable for me. i think his style isn't for everyone, but for me, it's amazing. people complain about the "shaky camera" but that's the part i like the most. it gets you right in there. i imagine that's what a real medieval battle is like, very cluttered and chaotic. There is only one Hell: the one we live in now.

The episode was enjoyable to watch. It held my interest the whole time. There wasn't anything wrong with the directing or the cinematography. It was a night battle and they went for a darker mood.
I can understand the potato battle plan was due to cost and time restraints. They just couldn't afford to do the episode justice with a proper fight with the infantry holding the line the cavalry harassing the flanks and the war machines reigning fire from behind the walls. It still detracted from the viewing experience because everyone has played some sort of RTS game by now and knows basic military formations and tactics.
But the main character fake out deaths and surprise Arya really are inexcusable.Motorcycle crew

Why do people side with Theon in any way? Even go as far as to say they like him?
The dude was a total piece of shiet. He got what he deserved. If I was Jon I would have put Longclaw through Theon the moment I saw him again at Dragonstone. Lol at that ******* trying to redeem himself. Anyone could have been put in his place to defend Brann.Manchester United

Duh the entire ending of the story is redemption arcs. Brienne getting knighted by Jaime, Theon protecting Bran/winterfell, Edd protecting Sam who he used to despise, Ser friendzone dying for his lady love. The writers are trying desperately to drum some emotion out of their Michael Bay/Jerry Bruckheimer ending. It just comes off flat and stupid because the writing is terrible.
