The bar looks very good but the weight plates are probably just going to peel long term

Yeah, if they were revolvers I'd already have them at that price, but the RUBOs are a tougher sell for me.

Also I found an insane deal of a Hammer Strength rack and matching docking Bench for 800. Too big for me at Hammers 108" (?) and more importantly I don't want to give up my Mech monolift. But if I was a newb with a chop saw......this would be a one and done purchase. https://www.********.com/marketplace...63464487358385

On the one hand: rubber plates at home generally don't take close to the abuse that they would at the gym. also I think i remember people saying there's stuff you can rub on them that restores and refreshes the rubber as it cracks. OTOH it's not something i'd personally want to deal with (UNLESS they were cheap enough, lol)

He's got the RUBOs too, listed just as Ivanko plates or something. He's a local gym owner that I've bought some stuff from. He had the RUBOs a few months ago but wanted more for them at that time.

If I knew I wouldn't end up selling it, I'd grab that Hammer rack. My Mech6 monolifts would even fit it, since my old Dynamic rack was a Hammer clone.

Seller seemed real shady. She was trying to "give me a deal" at $1200 each a few months ago. She will surely educate you on the value of her equipment even if she knows nothing.

I don't think it is a good investment, I think long term rubber will start to fail no matter what you do, just how it is. If I buy stuff I buy it for the long haul, I'd probably want things to last for a decade or two. I like painted cast iron for that reason, less to go wrong.

LOL. Don't you LOVE it when people try to 'educate' you on fitness equipment when they don't know who you are?

Edit: Also OSU, WTF is going on with the Day/Cin/Cbus market? I can't sell anything of quality for a fair price, let my Pro-Elite rack sit for a couple months on FB/CL and had to drop the price all the way down to $300 before someone would pick up the damn thing. I'm not entirely complaining, I bought it for $200 and got to use it for 6 months, but I expected at least $500 for a rack of that quality.

Over the last year I have noticed a MAJOR hit on rack prices. A rack I could have sold for $1000 a year ago now goes for $500-$600. Then my standard $500-$600 racks are only moving when they are dropped down to around $400. I think Rogue is the cause of this for me since they are so close to me. The wall mount folding racks are also enticing to the garage gym crowd. I haven't noticed any other type of equipment being effected as much as racks are.

I have had RUBO's for 2 years now. As good as new , may have cleaned them like twice in 2 years. One time was when they just arrived.

For homegym, it will be fine.

Well, whatever the cause I hope the market shapes up so that I can move things easier. ALSO, I think you hit the nail on the head with that lady selling the Powerlift racks. Seems shady as hell, just bumped the prices to $700 and added a sea of tag phrases to get attention. Even though $700 is still a decent deal I retract my previous excitement haha.

I am the exact opposite. I like rubber coated plates. I have both Revolvers and Body Solid rubber coated plates. I've had them for 3+ years. I bought them used and use them every workout. The Revolvers look the same as when I bought them, but they were pretty beat up with nicks and gouges. The previous owner did not take care of them. The BS plates looked new when I got them and they still look new. I expect both brands to keep looking good for the next 20 years of my use. I do no maintenance on them, other than wipe them down when I bought them.

I like the rubber plates because my gym is in a 10x14 room. Clanking plates can get LOUD in such a small space, not to mention they clash with the music I am listening to.

Nothing like Barry Manilow and Celine Dion getting ruined due to the sounds of metal plates.

All the commercial racks I've had have 3" spacing and it's really not an issue.

I think this is a big part of it. I was able to sell a Titan T-3 rack for $300 w/in a week of listing. It was the basic 24" deep version with no accessories. Seems like many of the home gym crowd just want cheaper stuff with the option of adding tons of accessories. And of course the necessary 1" hole spacing

Most of the commercial racks in my area that are listed seem to be over 8' tall, which is a no go for me unfortunately.

This is a big factor, too. How many home gym people want and have the space for an 8'+ tall, 7'+ long rack? How many of those people want that rack to have minimal or very expensive attachments and wider than desirable spacing? How many of the remainder want to pay a premium for this?

That's been my point - readily available accessories are more appealing than quality.

I've never understand why anyone would want a rack with 4" on center spacing in the first place? I'd think t makes for a real pain getting your j-cups, safeties, monolift, etc set in the correct position for squats, bench press, inclines, etc. Plus like mentioned alot of these commercial racks are 8' tall which worked fine in my 6 car garage I built with higher ceilings but when I moved to a standard 3 car garage I had to sell my Reflex 8' rack n get a shorter Rogue rack.

I don't agree, and in a garage setting with only one person using it, it is very easily correctable.

How do you very easily correct it? Sure you just either go further down or up than what’s optimal. Personally that doesn't work for me since I'm lifting heavier loads.

I agree with Cleveland. I have a Hammer strength half rack that I easily chopped off 8” to fit in 88” tall basement just needed to redrill pull-up crossmember .I think it has 3 “ slot spacing which never seemed to bother me. There are ways to get around it if it did. It’s a beast and paid less for the rack and matching locking bench than I would have for something new
