For conversation sake, pretend your girl of at least 5 years (maybe a kid or two) got hammered and slept with a dude. She confesses and immediately begs for forgiveness. Is there ANY case to take her back or is it 100% out the door no matter what?

Was she your first relationship? I can understand some people who have never gotten into a relationship before doing something like this because they don't know how to deal with such a bizarre and confusing situation.
To answer the op's question, haven't done it before and won't ever do such a thing. Relationships are special for a reason and this pretty much destroys any trust and worth a relationship has in the first place.

Yes, but it's complicated when you think about your quality of life. Is your life really better if you move to a shoebox apartment in financial ruin? Do people ever move on from that? I dunno I think there's more to it when you're talking about a wife vs. some sloot you've been dating for a few months.

A woman can take a man back sure, if he truly is repentant and has mended his ways. I don't see how a guy can be willing to take a woman back if she had an affair. I knew a man who's wife was screwing around with another guy for a priod of 2 weeks maybe 3. He found out and she apparently ended it with the man who cheated with, and he forgave her.
For me, cheating was always the only thing I'd ever consider getting violent with an SO over. For conversation sake btw.

crazy signs all the time. I'm a pretty open guy, have been in open relationships, etc., I'd ask her about him, she'd deny it fervently. one day it all just came to a head though. it became super obvious. she literally left the phd program because of it... **** got messy.
edit: they had been ****ing since she was an undergrad. he was always very hostile towards me (same program, mad awkward). I figured from the start something was up. she finally admitted to it after a few times dating on and off.
