Question Keratosis Pilaris... red spots on arms

i have always had red spots on the back of my shoulder, arms (tricep area) and forearms, my mom has it and told me its hereditary. from searching i found out what i believe it is..Keratosis Pilaris..
it really sucks especially now that im working out and are gonna show off my arms and wear sleeveless t-shirts and stuff. you don't feel it there but it is very noticeable and has gotten worse sense i was younger. anyone else have this skin condition and maybe a good way of keeping it in check or something to make it go away. im gonna go to a dermatologist sometime but figured id see if theres anyone that can help me out first

I have it and it ****ing sucks. I started getting it when I hit puberty. I have much worse on my right arm then my left. I also have a bit of it on my thighs and chest and back. It sucks and I often scratch them but they scar. I need to see a dermatologist about this as well. I read that it improveds in adult hood but at 23 years old and still having it. It sucks. When I get a tan it hides them a little better but there still there.

The name that you mention is correct. Is kerotisis psisaris or whatever.
Can you do me a favor and tell me what your dermatologist says after you guys see him.

    thanks

I have it, it kinda sucks, but I go tanning so they blend in with my darker skin. It's harmless though and from what I've read so far, there's no "cure" for it.

There's no cure for it and treatment isn't always effective. Generally colder weather makes it worse. See a dermatologist, you might be one of the lucky ones who responds well.

KP affects an estimated 40 to 50% of the adult population.

I am one of them. Its not too bad though.

You can barely tell anymore with a combination of exfoliation and Eucerin lotion. Plus. When I tan, it goes almost completely away.

I had this on my arms when I was younger, and I would use a loofa w/ some exfoliating facial wash to clean the area, then a tiny bit of Tazorac cream afterwords. It seemed to help the symptoms, and it eventually went away after a few months.

A LOT of people have it. It's very common. I have it too and exfoliating doesn't work for me. I found this stuff called KP Duty by a brand called Dermadoctor. It's sort of pricey and works best if you buy the Moisturizer and the medicated scrub. I used it consistently for about a week and noticed that my skin was a lot softer. However, I'm horrible at consistency so I only use it now when I remember to. If you don't have the money to buy it, look for products w/ glycolic acid or lactic acid, and urea. Another lotion you can try is U-lactin Lotion. It contains lactic acid and urea.
Here is the link for the moisturizer: http://www.dermadoctor.com/product.a...BFEC050E5CE%7D
and the link for the scrub: http://www.dermadoctor.com/product.a...BFEC050E5CE%7D
If you go on the link for the moisturizer there are some before and after pics.

I have a severe case of it...basically all over my body and the dermatologist gave my salicylic acid...it did nothing.

KP is basically when your hair follicles get clogged with dead skin and it builds up in layers...so first you need to get the top layer off with the dermabrasion crystals and then get the layers in the follicle with the Alpha Hydroxy...trust me this takes months to accomplish but the end result is skin that looks like its NEVER had any problems.

Hope that helped...KP can be eliminated for good...with constant AHA usage.
    Did it work for you?

Have it on both arms around triceps. And I am 35 so don't count on it going away. The sun does help it. I have also been considering seeing a dermatologist.

Well there isn't a "cure" for it but there are alot of things you can do. A doctor can perscribe something called Retin-A for it, and if its used reguarly should help quite a bit.

I read about a similar condition of tiny red dots on the backs of the arms which has a name begining with P. I can't remeber what it was called but according to alternative medicine practioners it is caused by liver congestion and remedied by a clean diet.

However, I'm horrible at consistency so I only use it now when I remember to. If you don't have the money to buy it, look for products w/ glycolic acid or lactic acid, and urea. Another lotion you can try is U-lactin Lotion. It contains lactic acid and urea.

If you go on the link for the moisturizer there are some before and after pics.
i baught the lotion and the scrub the other day. how often did you use the scrub?
