Capitalist: I support capitalism because people who work hard should be rewarded for working hard!
Socialist: Er, yeah, that's exactly why we're opposed to capitalism. Under capitalism the majority of humanity aren't properly rewarded for the hard work they do, most of the result of that hard work goes to the capitalist owner as profit.
Capitalist: .... you just want to take other people's hard work!
Socialist: No, again, that's exactly what we oppose, the entire reason our movement exists. Under capitalism, billions of working people work very hard to ultimately get the value they create taken by a few individuals at the top, just because the state enforces it using the threat of violence. If you're opposed to peoples' hard work being taken en masse, you should be diametrically opposed to capitalism.
Capitalist: *sweating profusely*... bbbut I was told capitalism is freedom!
Socialist: Maybe you were told that, but capitalism allows a class of economic elites, who became economic elites only through the extensive labour of billions of other people, to have near total control over the economy, society, and the political system. How is that freedom for the masses?
Capitalist: ......
I've had so many conversations with pro-capitalists that basically go exactly as above. Why do they struggle so much with basic logic?

Capitalist: I believe that both theory and history have shown that individualism both creates wealth for the individual and society as a whole and protects the natural rights of everyone, while socialism does the exact opposite as can be shown by history and using basic logic.
Why do you confuse freedom in the sense of the categorical imperative with a freedom from life's hardships?
Also, just build a socialist society within a capitalist one, people will see the light and the oppressive system is toppled in no time.

LOL at you
"majority of humanity aren't properly rewarded for the hard work they do"
Socialist isn't aware that reward is based on mutual agreement, thinks he knows what is fair better than the parties involved
"most of the result of that hard work goes to the capitalist owner as profit"
Socialist doesn't know profit margins are usually 0-5%
"peoples' hard work being taken en masse"
Socialist wants to literally take the results of work and distribute how he wants to
"capitalism allows a class of economic elites"
Socialist isn't aware that literally billions of people rose from extreme poverty thanks to capitalism
"near total control over the economy, society, and the political system"
Socialist thinks politics is taken over by capitalist but wants to give politicians more power
Nice potato logic you exposed there OP

There are no socialist countries in the world today. Capitalists are backed by the force of the state and so don't give up their power easily, so it hasn't yet happened (outside of a few small communes in history).
What you are saying is essentially equivalent to a peasant living under a feudal lord in the 1500s saying: "What awesome democratic society do you live in? And what are some examples of successful, flourishing democratic countries today? You're suggesting we get to vote on who rules us? Nice utopian fantasy, *******"
More potato logic.

Thus proving what an awesome system it is...

Derp... the USSR was a "small commune".

Shouldn't be my job to teach you basic economics, but since you asked - socialism is an economy based around worker ownership and control over the means of production, totally in contrast with capitalism. Social democracy /"welfare capitalism" is a capitalist economy that has high taxation and extensive government services that try and provide safety nets and improve opportunity for those at the bottom (eg. Bernie Sandals, Nordic countries, etc - what you're talking about).
That was basically the textbook definition of capitalism - private ownership of the means of production, an ownership title which indeed is enforced by the state. The capitalist class is a numerically small dominant class, the rest of humanity are wage labourers working for the capitalist class. Nothing other than a basic description of the economy we live in. Is this going to be like the last thread where you talked big then ducked out?

There are some small communes that exist within the capitalist system so I think it's possible to reject the state at some point only by enforcing the abolition of capitalism. The problem is that the majority of socialists are bat**** insane and so out of touch of reality I don't want to give them more power, and given the history of China, Venezuela, Cuba it gets scary.
Trust no one 👽

Worker-owned bread-packing plants pay around $34 an hour. It's pretty clear having a Mr.Burns pocketing all your gainz is not in a worker's best interest.
More annoying is our media, and therefore the public thought, is controlled by what some capitalist thinks. If you're sick of hearing about SJW's, Bruce Jenner, or Shades of Grey, well... the reason these things get pushed is because they know they'll rile you up, or because their niece is a fangirl of said bookporn.
Sadly it's impossible to create an institution that doesn't want to protect itself. PBS = plutocrat's broadcasting station. NPR = national plutocrat's radio. Planned Parenthood opposes universal medicare on the basis that it would lower the profit of the people it employs, despite universal medicare being the best thing possible for the health of women and men.
tldr, we're fukked
