wife's contractions are now 5-10 minutes apart allegedly. I'm reluctant to drive in for nothing but she's bleeding quite a bit so I guess it's time to go

TBH I'm not so much nervous as I'm hoping she isn't going to be in labor for like 24 hours with me posted up in a half-assed recliner. Being an ER/ICU nurse I'm certainly no OB expert, but it at least keeps me from getting terribly nervous
also glad no cool gun purchases are coming in the mail todayAugust 2023:

Interesting. I like the idea of using an AIWB holster. Just not so sure my body could handle it comfortably.
We were lucky with all three of mine. Wife had contractions and ended up staying in the hospital. With our second son we went in on Christmas Eve, and they tried to tell her that it was fine and to go home. She had so much pain in her back that they allowed her to stay a bit longer to monitor. Son was born at 2AM. Actually that's the worst part. All three of my boys were born between 2AM and 4AM. So no sleep and already tired.
Good luck bro.

Our first was a train wreck . . . as far as just the goofed up nature of it all and how it played out. Son wasn't due til late September and we were sitting talking to the neighbors on a late August morning and my wife was like, "hang on, I need to go check something". She went inside and came back out a little while later and said, "Not sure what's going on . . . I wonder if my water is breaking or something because I sprung a slow leak." She was just kind of dribbling clear fluid, but not a lot.
We called the OB and she said to go to the hospital to get it checked. When we got there, the resident checked her out and was really condescending about the whole thing. She told my wife she probably was overthinking things being a new expecting mom and was probably wetting herself--and made it a point to mention "that's why WE go to medical school". She said it definitely wasn't amniotic fluid and told us she called our OB and reported it was a false alarm and she told us to go home. So we did.
Later that day, my wife is still leaking. She was adamant that she knew she wasn't peeing and so we called the OB again and she said to go right back and she would meet us there. We got to the hospital, a nurse did some litmus paper test (that we never saw the resident do) and said, "yup--you're having a baby today!". We hadn't packed a thing for the hospital because the due date was a month away. They got my wife started on pitocin and I went home to grab some basics--she was in labor overnight (and hadn't eaten--then they said she COULDN'T eat at that point). She was not happy.
Long story short . . . baby came and we showed up at the child birth class a couple nights later with him in tow and asked if we still had to take the final. Freaked everyone out because the classes had just started the week before.
For the second kid, my wife called from the OB office and told me she was dialated and was heading to the hospital and to meet her there. I said I was leaving right away. She laughed and said, "don't hurry . . . I'm stopping off to get lunch based on what happened the last time when I was starving the whole time--not gonna go through that again!"*MFC Elder Statesmen Cabinet Crew*

^^^ The whole not eating thing sucked. I had my BIL bring me some McDonald's that I ate outside the wife's room for our first.
When our second one came, it sucked for my first born. We wanted to stay at the hospital but he got sick and was throwing up, so we went home. I remember going back the next day and he had to take his Christmas toys with him. Sitting around in the room after the baby has arrived sucks.
Third one came and it was like, 'meh, okay'. Let the nurses take him to the nursery so the wife could sleep.
