You beat me to this ^^^ the Canadians are well known as great snipers.
The most impressive shot I've ever seen was my cousin once dropped a buck at 800 yards with a 30-06. Wasn't even a bolt gun was a dang semi-auto Remington. I once saw my brother drop an antelope at closer to 700 yards with a .243, that was a heck of a shot too but the 30-06 at 800 yards is far better.
Another cousin a few years ago was the National Champ for women in silhouette shooting with a 45-70, there you're lobing rounds in at crazy angles.
These guys that make this super long shots blow my mind.Was friends with Methuselah

Those are some long shots. The fun thing about long range is it's just physics, but every little error is magnified exponentially when shooting really far. I have a lever action .44 mag, looked at the ballistics chart for it, lol. Pretty much dropping bullets onto target much past 100 yards. Still plenty of energy, just a really big arc of a trajectory. I want to get one of those Sharps ranging aperture sights that slide up and down. Would be fun.

Snipers have been around for over 150 years (guns) and there has been no lack of information on snipers in history. Top countries sort of professionally compete and it is a psychological blow to the radical Islamic dogs when they are shot by snipers by making the news public.

Dang OTL that's some long ranges, I shot an 06 for many years before switching to a 300 win mag, if I recall correctly a 165gr dropped about 55 in @ 500 yds and fell of drastically after that.. nice shooting..Those guys knew their rifles.
My longest was just a shade over 500 with a 300 win mag 200gr on a moose. Was a cool crisp morning with zero wind down range and the bull was standing broadside. The moose dropped instantly and as it was going down I heard the bullet impact. (I was hooked) I did have an opportunity for longer shots twice after that but they were quartering shots and windy, too iffy, I wasn't confident enough to put the lead in the air.Air Force Veteran 1976 - 1999 - Cannabis Enthusiast since the 1960's

There are some pretty seriously good shots in my family... unfortunately, I'm not one (it's the Swiss heritage, we love our guns... I actually own 3 Swiss rifles). I won't take a shot past 400 yards and only if I can find a very stable rest and VERY clear shot. But, I have an essential tremor and that seriously messes up my long distance shooting. I much prefer to take shots closer to 200 yards or less.
My brother regularly took deer and antelope with that .243 at 500 yards or more, it's a great shooting rifle and I wish I had it. Of course I couldn't shoot it half as well as he can.
I have three 30-06's and love that round. But I have more 8mmx57mm (8mm Mauser) than any other caliber, I have 5 of them and used one to take the last deer I shot which was too many years ago. That was a 275 yard off hand shot. There was a buck and a doe on a side hill and I told my son to shoot the buck and I'd take the doe (I had a doe tag). He dropped the buck (with a .243) and as the doe turned away I dropped her. She paid me back though by rolling down the the cut bank and forcing me to have to drag her out of a wash out.
