They could've screwed it in the 70s, 80s or 90s but they decided to do it now and take advantage of the growing population in the west, also to launder their money. The younger generation deals with disproportionately higher prices for rent, food, tuition, child care, etc. We're also paying the social security that goes to the older generations who constantly complain about us. In 1970, a single, average worker could support a household with a 40 hour workweek. That is nearly impossible today. It's asinine to apply their standards to the context of our work environment.

I don't get it min wage, in my city is $10.50 and kids can easily find a two bedroom apartment for ~$1400 and split. I didn't even move out until I was making 11/hr and my first apartment was $1200.

These kids have it made, I would have never been able to do that on min wage which was only $5.00 at the time.

My daughter is 20 and she is living on her own on min wage. She never complains about not having money, bought a car with her own money, and is also going to school.

uh, bs, my parents needed dual income to support my sister and I, and my dad was in upper management. We never had any excess and NEVER went out to eat. I am way better off than my parents were as I was able to support a wife and 3 kids on my own.

It's impossible becuase you wanna live in a nice city with nice schools in a nice neighborhood in a nice house. GTFO, if you really wanna work hard, budget hard and make a single breadwinner household work you can do it.

From age 4+ I worked the fields picking fruit every summer. Made ~$200 for an entire summer. As a teenager I worked for $2 per hour every summer, evenings and weekends. Worked more jobs that I can list.

Gave me an appetite to succeed, and never take chit for granted. But I never deserved anything. I knew I had to work hard to succeed in life and thankfully my parents gave me an opportunity.

I appreciate every single opportunity I've ever gotten, I am so incredibly lucky to have been born in a first world country with all these ridiculous amenities and to never go hungry.

Yes, most of us millenials didn't work the fields at 5 years of age. Gosh, didn't realize that was a normal thing amongst the the gen xers and boomers. That must be the key to their success. The school had scouting fairs yearly, where companies would hire students in their last professional year, enticing them with a sign on bonus of 10-15k that they would receive immediately. I had friends who got that bonus, and were rocking big screen tvs and BMWs just before they graduated. This had been going on for a long time. When I graduated in 2009, there were no bonuses and there was no career fair. The companies that used to hire students in the past were now cutting jobs, rather than adding them. We had to fight for work in an industry where established workers with experience were being let go. Don't tell me that we had it easier than previous generations, because my whole class of graduates (STEM/Medical) would beg to differ.

2009 was a tougher year, I'll give you that. I recall having a pay and promotion freeze that year. It recovered pretty quickly though and now STEM has booming for years.
