Depends a lot on the state. Here in Colorado first ones aren't that bad. Over .15 or refusal you lose license for a month or two and have to have an interlock for two years to drive. They will give some community service and alcohol classes. Lawyer fees depend on if you end up pushing all the way to court. If you take the pretrial deal the da offers then it will be around 2 to 3k. Overall 8-10k, embarrassment when others find out, possible ramifications at work, and plenty of hours lost. End of life... no. It def a ****ty place to be

Is there any real point to get a lawyer? Could you cut a deal with the prosecutor yourself for the alcohol classes and ankle monitor and save yourself the $5,000. A buddy of mine got a DUI, his lawyer told him all these defenses like questioning all the evidence, chain of custody etc but when they went to court the lawyer basically just begged for the judge to go light on the punishment.

You have to be driving like an absolute retard to get pulled for DUI.
The average person that gets pulled for DUI has driven drunk countless times before finally getting caught.
I hope this goes very badly for you OP.
If you ever drive drunk again I hope you hit a tree.Eat in a deficit to lose weight.

Let me ask you a related question.
Do you think there is a single person in this thread that knows 0 people that have been killed in a dunk driving accident? This a sore subject for a reason.
The only reason anyone can be so nonchalant about it is that both Liberals and Conservatives like to get their drink on.
If this was like the gun issue society would treat you like a child rapist, just compare school shooting fatalities to drunk driving fatalities, its not even close.
You have to add every single way it is possible to die from a gun to get close to just DUI deaths, forget all of the other ways drinking can kill you.
Can you actually picture saying "I got arrested firing shots at a school but no one died so I don't get what the problem is."Eat in a deficit to lose weight.

Bet the majority of folks negging OP ITT have rolled the dice at least once in their life after drinking because they convinced themselves they were ok to drive in the moment. Everyone makes mistakes y'all, and a lot of the time, DUIs are a result of, yes, an ill-advised decision, but also terrible luck/unfortunate circumstances.
EDIT: That being said, if you get a second one, that's 100% on you, and you're ****ed.

Stupid thing to do, but if no one got hurt now is the time for a reflection. Don't know what this talk of lifes over and career ends though. Heavy fines and fees and license suspension for a period is the end result
