Depends a lot on the state. Here in Colorado first ones aren't that bad. Over .15 or refusal you lose license for a month or two and have to have an interlock for two years to drive. They will give some community service and alcohol classes. Lawyer fees depend on if you end up pushing all the way to court. If you take the pretrial deal the da offers then it will be around 2 to 3k. Overall 8-10k, embarrassment when others find out, possible ramifications at work, and plenty of hours lost. End of life... no. It def a ****ty place to be

A buddy of mine got a DUI, his lawyer told him all these defenses like questioning all the evidence, chain of custody etc but when they went to court the lawyer basically just begged for the judge to go light on the punishment.

unless you honestly think there is a chance you can beat the charges a lawyer is a waste.
