    Rogue lat pulldown machine discontinued?

I was gathering info about lat pulldowns. I see that Rogue pulldown is out-of-stock on their website. So I called them and a lady said:" I cannot provide any information when and if the machine will be available."
I am curious about the "if" part. Does it mean it is on its way to be discontinued?
When I asked her about it being discontinued she again could not provide any information. She mentioned "redesign" though.
If you know more, can you please share?

Just a guess, but their lead designer quit and took a job with Arsenal which is a division of Dynamic Fitness. Designers like that don't just grow on trees, so I'm assuming they're searching for another designer who will redesign at some point.

When did this happen? I've been waiting 5 weeks for a large order from Rogue that included a Monster rack and it does not appear even close to shipping. That kind of news has me worried if the monster racks are among items effected.

Maybe a month or so this happened, but doubt the Monster racks are affected...those designs are pretty well set, it's just a matter of them building a run of those racks. I would suspect more of the selectorize stuff is on hold, maybe the new Mono they were working, etc.

Maybe it's just the price. $2950 for a lat pulldown?
I mean, it's slick looking, the band attachment is awesome (but not causing such a huge price increase), but really? I can see why it's not being offered.

Premium pieces like that are not their bread and butter. I thought I remember them moving the ISO leg press to closeout too, but I just checked and it's still in the normal section.

Once you get into that price stratosphere, the buyer is probably looking for the best of the best...and pay a few $ more and go with the UCS: http://www.ucsspirit.com/strength-sp...ull-Down-Tower

I've mentioned this before in other threads, Rogue is focused on getting more into the commercial side of things. There's only so many garage guys and CF boxes out there to sell to, so having a commercial lines gets them a totally new market to try and make a presence in.

I think most people assume that's the goal...and it's most likely true...but if it is, they are doing it really slow. The iso leg press and monster swing-arm ghd were out right when they bought the Nebula designs. And in these several years since then, they did a lat pull down and a prone leg curl, one of which was discontinued.

It's the install that I think makes commercial so enticing.

Breaking into the commercial/collegiate market will be tough, a lot of well established suppliers out there and it's a cutthroat business.

Ah, that's interesting, over here in the UK, outside of the Crossfit market, they've made very little impact. Rogue doesn't even offer the Monster line in Europe, maybe things may be about to change, as the Abrahams GHd and the AB2 bench are now available.

I'm talking pro and college team weight rooms, the only way you would really know is to see inside of it. The only reason I knew was because I caught a post on Rogue's FB page and I was surprised that they had pulled a pretty major college - which one escapes me right now.

Your lack of true football teams footing the bill for a refurbed weight room may be the cause as well.

I know the New Orleans Saints got their new equipment from Rogue (~1-2 years ago). It looks pretty amazing. Their head coach, Sean Payton, was doing CrossFit, so that was probably how that connection happened.

And yeah, I'd get the Legend one in a heartbeat and save $1500 in the process.

The issue with that piece is its designed, marketed, and priced wrong, the perfect storm for horrible sales. Its a great lat pulldown i am sure, but has almost no apeal to a specific market. It's price is way too high for the garage gym market, even premium buyers arent usually looking to spend 3k for a lat pulldown. those who would are probably going to go with a more upscale offering in the price range, or spend a llittle less and get an equivalent from Legend. For commercial its totally designed wrong, no gym wants a row that requires you sit on the floor! The Legend or amy number of others actually have a bench seat fir the row, your not seeing this in many real gyms. The piece isnt all that special, its solid, but not spectacular. What they should have done is make it a "mobster lite" at $1900. Or so. They should have been able to make it pretty close, maybe a few less laser engraved pieces, standard 220# stack, with reasonable stack upgrade that doesnt require changing selector rods. It can be done, and would be a better seller by far. They go from spud $80 pulley to 3k and nothing between!

Your lack of true football teams footing the bill for a refurbed weight room may be the cause as well.

Oh we have pro sport here in the UK LOL, just maybe not on the scale of you guys in the US, when you look at some of the facilities used by pro teams in the States it's apparent that there's significantly more money available to invest in their weight rooms than on this side of the pond.
Certainly here in the UK, Hammer Strength, Power-Lift and Cybex have been the dominant equipment suppliers in pro sport/college weight rooms for many years, along with Legend this may also be true in the US. Rogue are a major success story and I have no doubt they have the manufacturing/distribution network to fulfil this ambition, my observation as an interested onlooker is that as mentioned earlier in this thread, at times Rogue appear to be a little slow in implementing some of their innovations, it appears they have yet to make a significant move on this sector, should they wish to really pursue this market, how easy is it going to be to compete unless they develop their high end products?.

Oh I know you do, but football is the big driver both in money and in weightlifting, especially at colleges.

And in these several years since then, they did a lat pull down and a prone leg curl, one of which was discontinued.
Here's the deal, Crowther, who originally purchased the rights to Nebula and sold designs and name to Rogue, and Rogue, never could really figure out how to recreate the Nebula line. Rogue did build a few pieces, but they never really were able to do it right, so they finally brought in Tom Eilerman to design for them and help build their commercial line. So Rogue brings him in, Tom does his stuff, but they never really utilized him right nor did they really make him feel more than just a contracted designer. Meanwhile, Arsenal, a division of Dynamic Fitness, purchases everything from Crowther that relates to Nebula and decides to bring in the guy who started Nebula to design the equipment. Tom leaves Rogue for Arsenal, and now Rogue still can't figure out what to do with this line.

So now that Arsenal is re-releasing the Nebula commercial line, I don't think it's in Rogue's best interest to even try to make something that is anything similar now to what Arsenal is doing, so if they're smart, they're tabling all the future Nebula commercial designs and start searching for either a new designer who can deliver them a commercial line, or they need to acquire a commercial line that they can reproduce in house. I wouldn't expect anything commercial from Rogue very soon.

    Rogue

It seems to be ironic that rogue modeled their business off of Henry Ford and the model T and the same problems that happened to ford might be happening to rogue. Least of which is a massive factory that looks like it won't match future demand. Especially considering a power rack can last a lot longer than a car.

Agreed, but they started out on the right foot by buying the Nebula rights which had a major collegiate and commercial presence, then it took them a few years to figure out that maybe they should bring in the designer to help get this commercial line off the ground, but then they fumbled and lost the guy that was going to bring them their commercial line and presence.

It can be done, and would be a better seller by far.

Maybe they should put some fake bullet hole stickers where the holes are

I think this is about right. My sense is that the expensive commercial pieces were designed to allow them to 1) offer complete or near complete commercial or S&C driven packages 2) would be heavily discounted from retail in said packages.

While it may seem like they fumbled I will give them credit for not destroying or alienating their existing base like so many others have done when trying to reach or expand. They stayed true to their roots and foundation making a fumble on commercial entry inconvenient but not devastating. While that doesn't seem like much I've seen so many companies blow this up that they get props for that from me.

No, that's not it. Well, they very well could have, but it's not the two I am thinking of - I would have remembered.

But yea - damn if they only focused on Ohio HS weight rooms, they'd be doing just fine for quite some time, let alone Ohio colleges too.

Here's one issue: if I'm a college with a large budget, why would I choose rogue over sorinex who basically only does large facilities and does them well?

Why do some colleges choose Elite over Sorinex? Looked like Rogue did a great job on the rooms I saw.

I'm not defending Rogue - I think their stuff is overpriced. However Legend 3228 is very similar in price and functionality to Rogue.

I believe several of the forum regulars have the Legend 3136, take a look at the Legendary Thread, a lot of positive things said about the 3136 there.
