2080ti or bust boyo
not sure how the 1080ti performs but with current games...this is where im around (1440p/165hz gsync monitor)
all Ultra or highest possible settings (100% resolution scale though). All in multiplayer or the most demanding game modes
bf5 = 130-170 (165 average)
anthem= 90-110
destiny2= 100-165 (130 average)
i7-8700k Overclocked to 4.8ghz stable. so basically at 1440p, a 2080ti is performing close to the monitor's refresh rate at the highest settings. i can imagine that a 1080ti will require you to turn things down

I'm going to grab a 2nd Hybrid 2080 Ti this week from EVGA. My director at work is buying my 2nd desktop for $1100 and I already sold my XBOX & Oculus (**** gave me migraines and made me queasy anyway), so I have the $$$.
Let me know how SLI works for you man. I'm excited to see if my 9900k can handle 2 cards without bottlenecking them.
The motherboard I used was the MSI MEG ACE Z390. Since it looks like you're going with the same socket, I'd suggest that board. Looks nice, has good RGB features (if you're into that kind of thing), multiple NVME slots, etc."That boulder is too large. I could lift a smaller one."

I wasn't sure I'd have the $$ or not but my boss/director was looking for another gaming PC (I've built like 7 for him since I started working here, he has a lot of kids, and he & his wife both game), so I offered him my living room PC for $1100. I built it for ~$1400 last year so it's still all current gen hardware, and he wanted it to play that new Amazon MMORPG (New World?). I got $350 for my XBOX One X, $220 for my Oculus, and all that together makes for plenty to grab a 2nd Hybrid card + a 3 slot Nvlink Bridge. Hopefully I'll have that by the end of this week and can make a video for the weekend about it.
I was kinda torn between a 2nd 2080 Ti and a 4k 144hz monitor (since all told it's about the same price once I grab an Nvlink bridge).. You figure I can already do 4k 60 FPS+ in everything with a single 2080 Ti, so if I get a 2nd, I'm still not going to see the advantage with a 60hz panel. If however I get the 144hz panel, at best I may get into ~70-90 FPS depending on the game, so that's an improvement in frame rates, but I'd not be able to cap out the 144hz, which leaves frames on the table. Plus, I don't really want to downgrade from a 32" panel to a 27". I think getting the 2nd GPU now, and waiting for other newer monitor options with 4k 144hz at a larger display size (and hopefully cheaper) to come along is the way to go.Last edited by InstantLoser; 02-12-2019 at 09:28 AM.

I'm already planning to hate SLI :P Just really wanted to impulse buy something as I'm still using the first PC that I ever built, 5 years ago
I'll probably try SLI for a day, decide it sucks for Apex Legends, then swap one 1080ti for the 980ti in my second rig, or just build an entire 3rd computer.
we'll see
can anyone help me figure out what SLI bridge I need?

inching closer to making a decision and turning a vision into reality lol. looking at a Ryzen 7 2700x with a RTX 2070
Also, trying to figure out what to do about a new monitor. Primary focus is photo and video editing but still want to play new games. Seems like an IPS panel with g-sync is the way to go, but not to keen on the price... thoughts?"It won't get better, just different."

Is that really a good choice for image editing though? It's 8 bit, and QLED makes colors look better but I'm not sure if it really makes them more accurate. That's a VA panel also, not IPS (not that I have a problem with VA, but IPS is usually more accurate for color again for image editing). For gaming though, no question those are nice panels.. and with Nvidia now supporting FreeSync it'd be a nice smooth experience (though a 2070 may struggle with some games at that resolution while trying to maintain 100 FPS). Pretty sure it's not HDR either (if OP cares).

You could also consider Freesync panels as Nvidia supports them now, especially if it's a panel from their "Certified" list of Freesync offerings. Save yourself ~$150-200 for ostensibly identical performance, all other features being equal (ie panel type, refresh rate, resolution, etc).

Got another bad NVLINK bridge. This is fuking insane. 2 out of 3 bridges have been bad. Calling EVGA now to get another hopefully overnighted to me. Talk about **** tier QC.

I'm supposed to get a free copy of BFV and Anthem with my 2080 Ti Hybrid purchase, so I can probably give it a shot later tonight. Not sure how quickly the turnaround is on claiming the game codes from EVGA though so it may take a couple days. I have no real interest in BFV (thanks to their chitty behavior prior to the game launch), but if I'm getting it for free I don't mind using it as a benchmark to test my system. I probably will play Anthem a bit (since again, it's free).

Tired of my toaster that I built almost 6 yrs ago now with minimal incremental upgrades. Just ordered new parts.
Current:
FX-6350
8GB RAM low end frequency
Sapphire R9 280 - 3GB
Old ass GIGABYTE AM3 mobo
Then I have stuff that I'm keeping like my THOR case, 750W PSU, Samsung EVO 850 SSD, etc.
New parts I'm waiting for:
MSI B450 AM4 Tomahawk mobo
RX VEGA 56 OC 8GB
16GB 3000mhz RAM
Ryzen 5 2600
Decided not to go for Ryzen 7 with the 3000 series dropping in like half a year now, if I feel the need to future proof myself and go ham I might upgrade then and sell the 5.I slow down so I can gather the power,

Have not read through entire 135 pages, has anyone done a recent Ryzen build? Have a workstation PC that's a few years old that runs large format PDFs, CAD, and the normal Windows suite packages. Checking to see if anyone's had experiences with something similar and could advise on discreet gaming card vs. professional graphics insofar as PDF and CAD rendering speed.

Depending on your budget and need for multi-threading, you may wish to consider an AMD Threadripper vs an AM4 socket Ryzen chip... or wait until later this year for the 3rd Gen Ryzen & Threadripper offerings to hit the market before deciding what to go with. I think most of those are supposed to be out around mid 2019, and offer quite an improvement over the current/2nd Gen chips.
As for a GPU for CAD, again depending on your budget, a new Radeon 7 card is probably the best workstation + gaming card at the moment (although they just released I think and are hard to get due to stock limitations). That or once again, wait for AMD Navi cards to launch around the same time as the new Ryzen CPU's and see what they can do for your workstation needs."That boulder is too large. Picked up the replacement monitor and it works! For some reason I had initially boot it up with an HDMI cable instead of DP but after that everything seems to working great. Now to figure out how to have freesynch work since it's apparently compatible.
