I recently got a Xbox One X, and also sold my reference 980 Ti as the price will drop further once new gen cards come out. I don't use my pc for anything other than the internet nowadays due to the garbage state of the gaming market(imo), requirement of tinkering, and time constraints.
I actually managed to buy 16GB Trident Z RGB 3000 for $190 CAD (~150 USD) a few months ago of some guy. Never would have gotten it otherwise as it is now reaching $300CAD/260USD in stores.Agar.io Crew - Cell Tech Poverty Gains Liberal Agenda

If I were you I would look for older generation parts / complete systems on CL or your country's equivalent.
A good setup for CSGO could be i5 4690k/i7 4770k, 8gb > ram, 980ti (very much bang for your buck) or you could even use a 980/970 if the price was low enough, throw in a new ssd, case psu, peripherals etc and you're set.
Buying current gen cpu which requires ddr4 is very expensive because of insane ram prices and the current gen gpus are sold out and overpriced because there are so many miners buying them up.
It could work buying a current gen cpu/mobo/ram, but don't buy current gen gpus, they're price gouged.

It's for a machine learning rig, yea. Got a decent budget this year but what's the point if I can't even spend it cuz crypto idiots are buying up the parts I need. I mean, I could spend like $8k on 11-way 1080 TI SLIs for the same raw power equivalent of 1 Titan V but what a waste of money. Plus I don't think SLI is even used by CUDA scheduled work, so it wouldn't work anyway.

Can you just not set yourself up? There are a lot of other peripherals you could put use and into place for the eventual upgrade. I used to do this all the times with my audio equipment. Although in that case equipment takes years to obsolesce, so saving and waiting to get other parts was never a real issue.
Still, the wait should be that long. So when Titan V becomes available in a few months just plug it in.🎥

I could, and I wouldn't have an issue with that, but I don't see any GPUs worthwhile at the moment that aren't marked up terribly. I'll probably just wait the few months and and maybe the overall price will have gotten cheaper in addition to the GPUs as well. It's just really annoying and a waste of time when I feel like I could be putting this kind of hardware to better use than some kids jumping on a bandwagon they barely have any technical knowledge of

Port Rant: Still not getting this right.
Here we go again with my computer reviewer rant. For all those youtube reviewers out there that don't know by now giving desktop or laptop reviews without specifying the capacity (throughput/power) rating of the ports is next to useless.
To clarity, there are as many as 3 generations of ports currently for sale on the market, so just stating the port type without without its generational component means little. That's especially true with laptops where these ports cannot be upgraded.
Potential laptop purchasers would be left out in the cold once they discover their peripheral -- especially monitors -- isn't compatible due to an obsolete generation port. An external graphics card is another example of a missed opportunity.
The ports that vary are:
USB 2.0/3.1 Gen 1/2, Type A/C
HDMI 1.4/2.0
Thunderbolt 2/3
DP 1.2/1.3/1.4
Currently not a single reviewer does this consistently. Its also not typically available in literature from the manufacture (without a lot of searching) which is why people look to the reviews in the first place.
Okay, if you already heard all of this before just ignore it.🎥

Oh please. They have every right to buy the GPUs too. You came in late, just deal with it.
This has been an on and off issue for years and you're just bitching about it now because you need to upgrade? A lot of people here suffered from this too and they never bitch the way you do. You have to remember, some of those miners you call idiots are regular posters on this sub than you are. GTFO with your entitlement BS.Steam - jinda28

I'd like to see Nvidia and AMD disable mining in the driver for their mainstream cards, and put out a line of cards that are strictly for mining (and work better than standard GPU's) to incentivize people to buy them instead. Of course that'd utterly screw over anyone who bought 20 GTX 1070's for mining... so I don't see that happening. Still, even if they'd just put out a solid "mining" lineup of cards, that might get people going forward to stop buying gaming GPU's for mining, thus allowing the gamer segment of the market to get cards at proper retail prices. Then again as soon as the mining cards sold out (because manufacturers never seem to make enough cards to meet demand), the regular cards would just get bought up again.

Yep. Laptops with 10 series GPU's are the way to go right now. Like you said, it can always be hooked up to peripherals (including kb/mouse as well as a larger display) and viola: You have desktop performance with the added benefit of being able to take it with you. The downside is they lack upgradability, but you can bypass that with Alienware by using their external GPU Accelerator/Enclosure, which lets you use desktop GPU's with a laptop. That'd extend the life out for quite a while, assuming desktop cards eventually return to a semblance of availability/normal pricing.

Is it considered late when the card came out a few weeks ago? I don't keep up with computers or crypto so this is the first time I've ever ran into this issue. The difference between the idiots and the regular posters on this sub is that the majority of the posters on here actually know what they're doing. I only called the people that don't know what they're doing idiots. I have nothing against free market capitalism, but the fact is that entitlement is a reality, e.g. the NSF grant requested for my project was prioritized over giving another physics group the funding because the opinion is that ours would bring in more profit in the future, although the other group had requested their funding first, and for longer than we have.

Not about the card. Its about the issue. Regardless of what card it is, this issue with miners getting everything has been there for a while now.
Then that's one more reason why you have to spend sometime to keep up instead of calling people stupid.
Didn't see anything in your post that you tried to distinguish between the two. If you did, maybe it wont sound that bad.
Your project being chosen is not entitlement. That's basic economics and decision making. Prioritize projects with high earning potential. But your post believing that the GPUs will be better used for your intentions over the miners are pure entitlement. It's not just about the money the miners are making but also the hashing power they provide to verify transactions. Who are you to say that your project is better than the process of cryptography? Without the miners, a lot of cryptocurrencies who's relies on PoW wont work.Steam - jinda28

My complaint is only about a single card, because the Titan V is built for what I do at work, and I feel like competent crypto miners should have some sort of ASIC setup, which the Titan V cannot fulfill since its Tensor cores are floating points and not integers. So even if someone decided to reverse engineer Nvidia's proprietary hardware and wrote a specialized driver for it, it still wouldn't be very efficient for mining compared to more optimized ASIC mining setups. So I wasn't trying to generalize a group of people, but just based on what I have been reading on the internet in the past couple weeks and observing their actions, I call people idiots because they are buying out products like the Titan V when it won't really help them because they haven't done their technical research. Is there a shortage of miners or something? Anyway, I don't have any reasons why I am more entitled to to a card than anyone else, because I don't feel entitled to them. I am just complaining.

I've been using an 8GB Rx580 since I sold my 2x R9 295X2 for $550 each last year. I used them for about 2 years and bought them in 2015 for $500 each lol.
I could have gotten more if I waited til now though based on current demands. Each one of those can get 60 mhash/s with minor OC. But noone predicted this crypto will pump so high so soon. I thought mining eth was dead during that time.
So far, the 580 is more than enough for POE and LOL.Steam - jinda28
