Thoughts on the gold market right now? Looks to have made a bottom around 1190 and rallied after interest rate hike. Looking really strong tbh

+1 for trufe
Not to mention when you donate to the sloot you lose 100% of the money with little chance of getting anything more than a thank you. At least in the market you rarely loose everything and there's a better than avg chance that you will actually make something. The market is nothing like gofundme.
bottom line ... if you don't think you have the ability to beat the SP500 ... then invest in the SP500.My $0.02 is worth $0.03

So that poster I got signed by Alexis Ren doesn't mean she will go on a date with me?
Also time to short TSLA yet again. Latest hike could sway big holders to try and dumb some shares before they get diluted. Pretty sure dilution is set for around 2.5% assuming they want to raise 1 billion dollars.Fitness connoisseur

Hey guys I have a couple questions. I have just started studying finance about 2 months ago and wanted to get your opinions on 2 things.
1: I am currently in the Navy and will be releasing this summer and going back to college for finance. Upon releasing I will receive my pension contributions I made over the past 4 years back. I will be receiving 22k that will be in a locked in retirement account. I was thinking that if I am unable to touch in for the next 30+ years that I would put it all in an index fund that tracks the S&P 500 so that it can grow with the market over the next few decades. Thoughts? Opinions?
2: I have about 10k right now in a low risk mutual fund that I have saved up to help pay for tuition. I would like to move my cash into something a little more agressive as I won't need to access until at least 1 year from now. I was thinking possibly of a couple different ETF's that invest in gold/utilities because they pay good dividends. What do you guys think about that? What would you personally do?

Is it best to avoid ADR stocks?
You can walk outside and listen to all kinds of talk, get told you're a god or a total bastard. The iron always kicks you the real deal. It's the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. I have found it to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But 200 pounds is always 200 pounds.

Can someone recommend a super basic book or article on how to start investing? I have a few k I deposited into my vanguard acct and have no idea what or how to buy stocks etc. Sounds stupid but I'm considering this a learning experience and can risk this money.

True, but taking profits allowed me to focus and manage two quick shorts on MDCO and ESPR and then an ESPR bounce. Best thing I've probably learned is that profits are profits and there'll always be another play to start fresh on.
ESPR's gap down seems pretty extreme tbh. I could see it atleast hitting $25 again if it doesn't fill the gap. I'm going to probably try a short at about 23.50 before that though.
Edit: Didn't take the short. Backtraced without hitting my limit order. Nvm on ESPR being extreme. It pulled back straight to the 61.8 fib after the crazy run its been on. 25 still seems likely though.

Just buy an old textbook for like $5 or $10
Fundamentals of Investments by Charles Corrado is what I started on long ago
There's also a ton of information online. Investopedia.com has some good basic resources too. There's also a simulator, but you can usually find brokerages with better simulators to actually experience trade executions.
Here's Investopedia's quick rundown

ADR's are ok as long as you know what you're buying into and your factor in the risk associated with it. You're getting into a different country with different fisacal stuctures and laws. How is that going to effect what you're buying? I don't like them because I can't put them on the same playing field when I'm comparing US or CND companies. If it's an Japan bank ADR then you should not compare that ADR to a US bank. There might be similarities but they won't be controlled the same way if rules change.
First learn, then paper trade, then invest. While you are doing 1 and 2 ... save for 3.
There are thousands of books, I think there is a link to many on the post 1.
I can't tell you the best way to invest because there are many ways to go about doing it. All I can suggest is that you look into many ways and find a level of risk that you are willing to take without carrying emotion along with it. Emotion is your enemy in the market. My $0.02 is worth $0.03
