My girlfriend has syringomyelia and chiari malformation, which resulted in her having 4 brain surgeries; not cancer but more severe. Met her after her 3rd, her ex left her because he thought it was selfish of her to keep him stuck in the relationship that she likely won't make through. Started out as friends. Was there for her as a mate, half a year after her last surgery we started dating. You remember those who were there for you during those hard times, her ex used her and left her to the point she just felt like giving up on life. Funny enough the ex makes a reappearance when she recovers be she ain't having none of that chit. Kicked him to the curb.

This mind set can both ways.. It is much easier for a sick female to find a relationship then a male though. I have experienced it first hand a sick male is weak and deserves nothing, a sick female is strong.

A dedicated husband that took care of his wife during her entire illness. He ended up having to quit his job because she needed his care 24/7. When it got to the point where she was too sick to have sex and could no longer be intimate with him she convinced him to go out and find a woman to take care of those needs.

There is a lot of variables I suppose. I suppose the main one is the strength of the relationship.

A few months in, fair enough you can bail. A few years and you have to stay and support, how could you look at yourself in the mirror otherwise, you monster.

But look at the study some of us referenced. Women are more likely to stay. Men are 6 times more likely to leave. I don't know if that is true but there is a possibility that women have a lot of sympathy.

Women basically have left me high and dry enough times to learn that they would not do the same for me. fair play i suppose. Might wait until she is better so she doesnt have to worry about money but if thats not an issue, probably would bail. would feel bad about it sure, which is odd seeing as didnt seem to feel bad for me.

My ex wife had got depression shortly after we got married. it was horrible, would get yelled at every day and she would cry nonstop literallly for like 10 years. finally got her to go to the doctor, she got some meds and returned to normal, the same woman i married. of course now she felt so good that she left me for another woman. so i got the worst years of her life and was left with nothing.

I would def stay, even if it was "just" my GF. There are few times in our lives that we can have such an impact on someone's life, or what they have left of their life, as we would to someone on their last days. It would be hard, no doubt, but it would be worth it to us both.

Yeah it's pretty mind blowing indeed. I guess when you're healthy and able to provide for your husband in those type of ways and all of sudden you're too sick to do it anymore. Your husband stays by your side 24/7 caring for you through the worst...maybe she loved him so much she felt that was only thing at that point she could give back to him.

I don't know...makes me all teary eyed just thinking about it.

You can just TELL who is saying No based on an awful past experience and then those that are saying No because they are legit FA and have never been normal enough to get an actual GF or start/stay in a strong relationship (probably got dumped multiple times within the first couple weeks)

See above, we also gets a $420k lump sum tax free under trauma insurance if she gets cancer. Plus 75% of her current income paid right to age 70 if she needs it. Plus, you know, Australia so no massive medical bills.

It happens a lot more then you think. My mom left my dad after 20+ years of marriage because somehow he lost the qualities that she was once attracted to. She fell in love with her high school sweetheart.

My dad passed September of 2016 was in severe pain 24/7 and could barely do anymore Dialysis. He had brothers, sisters and sons by his side but not a wife.

People cheat, even if they have kids and are in long term marriages it is just the way people are.
