Just finished watching Korengal (Documentary about soldiers stationed in the Korengal Valley). As a civilian it was ok. No story to it really, just documenting the lives of the kids stationed there.

It was a follow up to Restrepo, wasn't intended to be its own separate piece.

Just finished watching Korengal (Documentary about soldiers stationed in the Korengal Valley). As a civilian it was ok. No story to it really, just documenting the lives of the kids stationed there.

"Citizen Soldier" is probably one of the better documentaries I've watched in terms of just showing soldiers on missions. You see more movement in vehicles/patrols/overwatch etc than in Korengal/Restrepo which is more focusing on boredom on deployment really. Citizen Soldiers follows some national guard unit through like 3 missions and they do a decent job of showing what happened. Best documentary I've seen in terms of what missions/combat is like in Afghanistan for average grunts.

Also gotta give a shout out to "The Hornets Nest" since they spend a ton of time on my actual platoon, but the guy that made it talks too much and focuses on himself more than anything unfortunately. The second half is still a good watch though.

. Currently California legislature hasn't distinctly defined what constitutes a featureless rifle so it's gonna be tough. As far as I know just get a lower DROS it etc. Or go 80% w/e and put the parts on it, don't use a forward vertical grip, non flash hider comp, no pistol grip, and pin the stock.

Only working M-W this week, taking a couple days off to do nothing.


I feel like I should take more time off. I'm sitting on 350 hours or so. I carried over 300 hours... and I used around 200 last year.

Must be nice, we can only carry over 80 hours into the new year, and they don't even pay us for the ones we lose. They're just... gone. I ****in hate my company.

Just caught up from the weekend, saw Dr. Cohen this last Friday. No more blue-eyed blonde boys.

Bored out of my damn mind from sitting around all weekend and ready to get back in the gym. Body is not cooperating tho.

Yeah man, I got mine done almost two weeks ago, and just got back into the gym this week. I spent the first four days doing nearly nothing, it drove me crazy.

I had no pain and no issues though. Just sat around with frozen peas on my nuts for the whole weekend.

That dude gets around.

Yes you definitely need to lol. Korengal was basically the "extra" footage not used in Restrepo but still worthy of putting it together as a follow up. The book about Restrepo, simply titled War, is also a great read and written by Sebastian Junger. Junger and Tim Hetherington (killed in Libya by a mortar covering the civil war) did Restrepo.


And of course if you want a great book that is related to all of that, check out Living With Honor, written by Sal Giunta, a member of the Restrepo unit and the first living recipient of the MOH since Vietnam.

Any of you guys wear gloves while shooting? I'm looking for something that will give me some warmth in the winter, but that maybe I can wear in summer for consistency.

I have but generally don't other than outdoors when it's cold (rare), on my support hand when shooting a lot of rifle rounds/shooting suppressed (because hot), or to protect an existing cut/scrape/burn when a band-aid alone comes up short. Nothing has the same dexterity as bare hands, gloves don't fit to reach into pockets as well, never work with touch screen phones as consistently as bare skin, etc. You don't get the same tactile feedback either.

I've tried hatch gloves, mechanix, SKD Tactical PIG/alpha/touch, etc. My range bag is home to one pair each mechanix and the SKD, which get used for non-shooting stuff as much as for shooting (working on target lines, etc)
