I have nothing against deadlifts but the "fitness community" or whatever you wanna call it these days, has overrated the sh!t out of that exercise.
"How much can you deadlift?" has become the new "How much can you bench?"
It's definitely the new ego lift these days.

Lmao op. I bet you dont even lift. What do youre big three look like ? And injuries and strains are apart of everyones weightlifting career. Some people may not do serious damage to anything but everyone exceperinces some type of injury or strain over time. My shoulder tendinitis flars up if im not strict on my bench form ( going past parallel ****s your **** up) when doing heavy bench but i still do it. Im just really good about my form instead of ego lifting and bouncing it off my chest. Keep coming up with excuses why you dont lift and keep looking like the same skinny fat **** year after year while the rest of us get bigger and more shredded. Just ldar pussy ass peasent.
Just fyi for the rest of you bros : once you hurt your shoulders its for life, i dont think i tore anything just had really bad tendinitis but i had over worked my shoulders when i was like 16 and had only been lifting for a year. I sprained my wrist and after it healed i jumped back in too quick. Learned my lesson thou. It flares up sometimes but its managable with good form. Just stay safe. Keep good care of your shoulders/rotator cuffs. If you tear your rc or the tendons around it bad enough , your upper body days are over.Sig can't be a novel crew

Tried to avoid posting because I've multiple negged in this thread but cmon guys....
Fit young men scared of picking up chit off the floor? Rly?
Arthritic old woman out lifting you probly
As long as you train smart these lifts will STOP you fukin up your back. Have you seen normals bending over? Makes me cringe the state of it. Once you learn to deadlift properly you will never bend over wrong again. Trouble is fi young men often dont lift smart. They don't stick to sensible programming. They do too much volume and they randomly max out with bad form.
As far as it doesn't build muscle pls post pics of skinny powerlifters.retired from powerlifting, retired from the misc

The problem is form, not exercise choice. And people copying the form of elite powerlifters thinking its conducive to anything other than moving the maximum weight from A to B.
Not saying I like those exercises, I do rack pulls instead of deadlifts, and dumbbell bench press only, but those exercises are perfectly safe if done with weights that allow a proper cadence with minimal momentum.

Most lifters who never deadlift can lift that lol
I never understood why squat, DL & barbell bench are advocated so much in bodybuilding. Only reason why powerlifters focus so much on them is because those lifts are their sport. lol at basing your whole training around a sport you dont compete inFollows Chestbrah's training routine crew

This. Honestly if you aren't willing to learn the fundamental exercises correctly GTFO of the gym. srs there is no point being there. WTF are you even saying OP? Without compounds whats left? Are you honestly saying you will be less likely to get an injury if you only do isolation fluff? You might not hurt yourself doing isolation curls but how about in the real world? The entire reason for going to the gym should be to develop the 7 primal movement pattern. Squat, lunge, push, pull, twist, bend and gait. To get strong in those positions so you are a more useful human and don't get hurt at work, playing with your kids, sports, etc.
…we have not spent the last 65 million or so years finely honing our physiology to watch Oprah. Like it or not, we are the product of a very long process of adaptation to a harsh physical existence, and the past couple centuries of comparative ease and plenty are not enough time to change our genome. We humans are at our best when our existence mirrors, or at least simulates, the one we are still genetically adapted to live. And that is the purpose of exercise. - Mark Rippetoe

Terrible terrible logic.
The squat and the deadlift are two of the most fundamental movements a human being will during their lifetime. You're deadlifting every single time you pick something off the floor.
Of course technique needs to be taught. But EVERYONE should squat and deadlift.355 Bench

Im not entirely sure people with under 5 years of training should try and defend or argue OPs stupid post. You need to have lifted and learned what the cause and effect, pros and cons of doing those lifts over a LONG period of time. A lot of stupid, younger lifters always act like they know these powerlifters that are healthy and dont have any problems. In reality, thats complete and utter bullsh*t and you're talking out of your ass. No matter what, you end up with many many aches and pains, you just dont have the experience under your belt to understand that. I would never want anyone to experience chronic aches and pains but the human body sucks and its 100% part of it.
The idea isnt that you have to go heavy, the idea is to learn how to handle weight in its rawest form(within the gym). Learn how to respect the weights with proper form, early on, with these basic lifts and it will bud and expand to every other exercise you do...forever.
Iv watched people that learn to lift from cables and machines. It translates into a terrible foundation. Im not talking about middle aged women that want to get fit or fat guys trying to lose weight. Im talking about younger men or women that fall in love with lifting and go on to do it for a very long time.Last edited by Zerafian; 02-16-2017 at 01:05 PM.
