I wouldn't say a confirmed bachelor is irrelevant.
You can definitely contribute in other ways -- with all that free time it's likely your chasing your hobbies/interests. In doing so, you may invent the next whatever.
No guarantee, but plenty of people who don't live that domestic life that can still contribute greatly in other, perhaps less conventional ways.
