You will not find a single Planet Fitness with Dumbbells up to 100 lbs. it's honestly not happening. My wife has a Black Card for PF so I train at a ton of them anytime we are traveling and in a big city (trained at one in downtown Philly, New York City, Myrtle Beach, Atlantic City, NJ, etc.) and they are literally all the same (for the most part). You will find some Hammer Strength machines (not plate loaded though, still stack loaded) and some have the occasional traditional bench press (free bar, weight tree, etc.) but not the dumbbells. You can get a good workout there no doubt (I seem to when I just want a pump and train session) but you won't be breaking any PR's there. No free weight squat rack and no deadlifting or bent over rowing ... so right there your already a bit limited.

I had one with old house (before divorce). Built it on to house, along with office and covered patio. Had it for PT biz...was sweet. Lost some in divorce and sold rest to get kids stuff for xmas following 3 years. Just bought a house again finally...gonna put another home gym together. Originally was gonna knock downa wall between 2 rooms and make it one big gym but my youngest moved in (which is awesome and more important) so we are gonna start with just the one room. Picked up an elliptical for my wife and put TV on wall for her, now gonna start looking for commercial grade equipment and slowly put it together. once son get s older and moves out, we'll finish the original plan. No huury, I enjoy going to gym and training with my boys and friends.

I will be looking at either the basement or garage for conversion. Going to keep it simple at first. Probably do a smith rack, full bench that can incline/decline etc, pull-up bar/pull down and legs. And a large dumbbell rack with maybe 140's being the highest for now. If I see some killer deals I will see what else. Going used, easy to find cheap ass gym equipment and I have the truck to haul it in

No that is definitely not the case with any of the PF's I've ever been too (and I've probably gone to at least 10 different one's all over the country ... even out in Colorado) and they at least have Dumbbells up to 70 lbs.


Not saying it's a good gym (by any means) but it's definitely not as "terrible" as people like to claim it to be. It's literally sometimes like the hate gains legs and people just go crazy with the stories.
