Yeah I learned my lesson all right, but at some point there needs to come a time when people can forgive and forget.

I have 0 points against my license at this point and that was the only moving violation in any vehicle that I've ever had. I'm pretty sure if someone's house is on fire they aren't worried about if the driver of the apparatus had a DUI within the past 10 years.

When someone makes a decision it's all about risk and reward. If the rewards out weigh the risk, then the person will commit to doing the action and vice versa. In your case it worked didn't it, the punishment was so great that you haven't touched a drink!


- Again, it's great that you learned your lesson. You had a moment of weakness and committed a crime. Your case is worse because your moment of weakness correlates to your job.

- You also said you almost lost your FD job due to this. Meaning you where already fire fighter when you committed your crime. Because of this, you were aware of what would happen if you got a DUI. You should have taken steps to assure that you would never be put in a position where you would get a DUI, ever!

- Again, you sure in hell are doing the right thing now, that means our DUI's laws worked brah. But should we forgive everyone that has learned their lesson, should wipe everyones record clean..No. In fact I would say that the thing keeping people (you) from doing it again are the after affects of the law.

I'm w/ you. DUIs should be severely punished, but there's got to be some realistic ending to it where they recognize that you have paid your dues. Something like 2 years with no other issues and they should be able to forgive 100%, imo.

If that were to happen, then people would keep on drinking and driving. Most people that get caught for a DUI, have been driving drunk before and would continue to do so until they would get caught or crash into someone.

- Ted1122 is a perfect example that tough DUI laws work. The chances of him doing it again are slim, thanks to the lasting affects of our DUI laws.

- But if we start forgiving it, you take away that after affect and we are back to square one.
