    Cool Replacement for cable-row?

I love cable-row, but I've been having progressively worse back pain. I may just be doing it in improper form, but even so- I would rather refrain from the machine for some time while researching proper form.

Can anyone recommend machines/workout for the upper back muscles that wouldn't stress my lower back?

    Thanks in advance.

Rows are movements in the horizontal plane, and because they cause you to bend over, they often cause back issues in trainees that use too much weight or use improper form.

Try vertical back movements such as pull ups and lat pull downs.

The first thing that comes to mind would be one of the chest-supported Row machines built by HammerStrength:

Another option would be a T-Bar Row machine:

Use the chest supported row machines and also can do one arm DB rows on a bench using your free hand to support your body.
I reckon you could also place a bench in front of a cable machine and row in a seated position with your back supported against the bench.

I used to do a bunch of chest supported barbell rows as well. Keeps the weight in the horizontal plane but completely protects the back. Use an adjustable bench set to an incline and set up the barbell underneath it.

Use machine rows usually you face the seat and pull to do the horizontal rows. Works the same muscle group.

Sorry to hear about your pain with the seated row.

I second the Hammer Strength ISO row machines. I think they are a quality option and changeup from standard row variations.
