What I am seeing more and more are the computer screens at coffee shops or restaurants that do not require a server yet after you swipe your card a screen appears asking how much gratuity you would like to leave, 15%, 20%, 30%, This is ridiculous. You are now asking for a tip even when you call my number and I have to pick up the food from the counter.

There is one coffee shop I like to go to downtown, best in San Diego, that asks for this. I always bring cash. I only get a black coffee, not some fancy drink, yet still want me to tip. Yes they are extremely friendly, but I'm not going to their house and asking for a cup of coffee. I am going to an establishment they work for. There is a fried chicken restaurant directly across the street that does the same thing, asks for tip at the register.

When I was working as a delivery driver seven years ago I was working with someone who just completed his masters degree in biological science from Northwestern. I'm a waitress and if someone doesn't tip me I go up to them and tell them they forgot something, I'll go out of the restaurant and chase them down if I have to. 10 times out of 10 they'll tip 25%+ out of sheer embarrassment that they were confronted.
