    Question Bench Press Irrelevant ?

    I know the bench press is great for strength but lately I've been seeing a lot of videos(youtube) and reading a lot about it being obsolete/not great for CHEST DEVELOPMENT?

    SO what is the verdict??
    continue to do it for the strength gains and just add some iso's
    or neglect the press :}

    It's not obsolete, I do incline and decline bench but I feel there's better ways to build muscle throughout my whole chest than just bench

    I prefer dumbbells, but more importantly do whatever feels most comfortable for you. Don't buy into the hype from YT "experts" who are on so many drugs they gain muscle by rolling over in bed and farting.

    Either dumbbell or barbell bench should always be in your routine IMO.

    Never abandon your bench press, however, you can add some volume for chest development. If you weight lift four times a week, benching on half of them at a reasonable volume, you get about 50 reps of chest work in. Throw in 3 sets of 8 of pec fly on your non-bench days and that should be all you need.

    I mostly feel stress in my shoulder/triceps when I bench press even with proper form, so usually after I bench I will go hard on chest flys (helped me a lot) because I think flys are an amazing ISO exercise.

    What i like to do is DB bench press for chest (I can really feel my chest) and close grip bench press for triceps.

    I only do incline movements but saying bench press is useless, even when just talking about muscle building, is just silly. It's a compound freeweight movement which involves the upper arm travelling across the body, the function of the pec, with elbow extension, tricep involvement. It's a fine exercise, and the fact there are lots of other also effective chest exercises doesn't make bench press a bad exercise.
